I spent ten years playing music by night and studying music therapy and clinical psychology by day. When I had a baby everything changed. Slowly, all of my efforts and talents culminated into one project that felt right.

During my studies in clinical psychology, I was taken by a class taught by Arietta Slade on different types of bonds a baby has to his/her mother. During that time, I had a baby at home the exact age of those being discussed; the material from class was bound to hit me in a personal way. We learned about what a parent can do to give the baby a feeling of security and protection, which allows the baby to feel safe enough to then go out into the world, in increasing spurts, explore, and eventually create new bonds with others.

On my mornings off from school I would savor the time with my baby, and found that the moments during which I felt most in tune with him was when I was singing to him, he was singing back, and we were smiling at each other.

I felt compelled to share the music and the knowledge I had gained with other parents. Now, when parents tell me they are singing more with their baby and smiling more at each other as a result of my workshops and CD, I know that indeed all of my paths thus far have converged perfectly.

Thank you so much for the incredible experience of being in your class. As a new mom, so many of the things I was feeling were scary and overwhelming. Your songs and your words made me feel every week that they were not only normal and OK, but also a very special part of being a mom. The songs give me the opportunity to pause occasionally and recognize how magical my baby is, and how incredible a gift.

Thank you so much for the wonderful class. This is such a tender time for me (and all the Moms) and I really appreciated how supported I felt by your warm, thoughtful facilitation. It was also super helpful to get your expert thoughts and to hear from the other Moms too about shared experiences. Aaron and I both love your music.

From the moment I greet Julia each morning to our playtime and meal time and bathtime, right up until our last cuddle each evening, your music is in my head (and often coming out of my mouth, albeit off key! )

I hope my daughter will sing your songs to HER children some day. They are timeless and very special.

My husband and I have been so incredibly touched by the magical, sweet, honest and funny lyrics in your songs. No matter how grown my son becomes over the years, I will always look back on this time with incredibly fond and sweet memories of listening to your music.

In the third trimester, the baby will be definitely able to hear the music you play. Classical music, gentle sounds like lullabies, nice melodies that inspire happiness all are designed to be soothing.

At Baby Squids we use a lot of songs in our swimming lessons to help children feel at ease in the water, but also to make the lessons enjoyable for both parents and children. Along with some of the traditional songs and nursery rhymes, we also have some of our own songs and adapted versions of traditional songs that we use.

Is there any better sound than hearing your baby giggle? This song is great for those first few months when they start smiling and laughing. And a game of peekaboo is great for babies who are just starting to understand the concept of object permanence (around 3 months-9 months). Peekaboo also helps in building gross motor skills, developing social skills and visual tracking. You can sing, or speak, it slow, fast, dramatic, silly, with props (like a scarf or blanket) or however feels most comfortable!

There are a lot of benefits of teaching your child or baby nursery rhymes from a young age; one being their cognitive development. The repetition found in the rhymes are good for your little one's brain and teaches them how language works while also building on their memory capabilities. In addition, nursery rhymes also help to develop inferencing skills - both when encountering new words and in reading comprehension later in life.

Baby nursery rhymes are also really important to your little one's speech development. They can help young children develop auditory skills such as being able to tell the difference between sounds and develop the ear for the music of words. Rhymes like the ones listed below also help children to articulate words, practise pitch and volume, and enunciate early by saying them over and over again.

Hickory dickory dock (Gently bounce baby to the beat)

The mouse ran up the clock (run your fingers from your baby's toes to their chin)

The clock struck one (clap once)

The mouse ran down (run your fingers down to your baby's toes)

Hickory dickory dock.

Hickory dickory dock (Gently bounce baby to the beat)

The mouse ran up the clock (run your fingers from your baby's toes to their chin)

The clock struck two (clap twice)

The mouse went "boo!" (cover baby's eyes with your hands then pull them away on boo!)

Sometimes you need a go-to song that is easy to remember. Five Little Monkeys is great for car rides (where your baby is bound to get fussy), because you can count down from eight to one as you sing. This is a longer song and an easy one to sing, so it will buy you extra time when your baby might need you to sing to them for longer periods of time. e24fc04721
