Apple has developed its own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC). In addition to AAC, the entire Apple Music catalog is now also encoded using ALAC in resolutions ranging from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD Quality) up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

The Lightning to 3.5 mm Audio Cable was designed to allow AirPods Max to connect to analog sources for listening to movies and music. AirPods Max can be connected to devices playing Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless recordings with exceptional audio quality. However, given the analog-to-digital conversion in the cable, the playback will not be completely lossless.

Their experience and insights are invaluable in shaping your journey toward excellence.

Hi! Not an audiophile by any means, so apologies for the newbie question. Anyway, to those who have tried both, did you notice a difference in audio quality between Spotify (320 kbps Ogg Vorbis) and Youtube Music (256 kbps AAC)?

This Associate of Applied Science degree in Music Audio Technology prepares students for entry-level employment as an audio technician, and to provide supplemental training for persons currently employed in this occupation. The content includes, but is not limited to: computer music software applications, audio recording/production, and live sound engineering.

The Music Business Certificate prepares students for opportunities in music promotion, publishing, touring, and marketing. Students will learn how to develop their business skills in the music industry so they can apply for careers in artist management, music marketing, publishing, the live entertainment industry, or entrepreneurship. Students will learn the basics of every major facet of the industry, choose what fits them, and learn how to further explore the area that best suits their career goals.

The Sound Engineering certificate program offers opportunities for students to add a wide range of music technology related courses to their expertise in order to advance in their jobs and to enhance skills needed in the audio industry. The content includes, but is not limited to: computer music software applications, audio recording/production, and live sound engineering.

The UC Berkeley Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) houses programs in research, pedagogy and public performance that are focused on the creative interaction between music and technology.

Pedagogy

CNMAT's pedagogy program is highly integrated with the Department of Music's graduate program in composition. We offer a wide range of opportunities for UC Berkeley students and outside scholars, artists, and music lovers. The CNMAT Max/MSP/Jitter Depot is an online library of software that is freely available for download and use: included are tools for artists and researchers, educational materials for students and teachers, and complete musical works for exploration and analysis. The Music Information Center is an online annotated list of web resources in computer music and new music in general, recommended by the CNMAT community. From tutorials on recording technique to residencies for composers, from the history of electronic music to third-party externals for Max/MSP, the Music Information Center is an ever-growing directory of materials concerned with new music in general and the creation of electronic and computer music. CNMAT offers a changing menu of summer workshops, with recent training in Max/MSP, Jitter, and sensors. These intensive workshops provide attendees with a comprehensive look at the implications of the technology in question for research and artistic creation, while also developing the familiarity with the fundamentals necessary for continued study. Students leave each workshop with an array of tools to explore and use in their own work.

Public Outreach

In our Sound Spatialization Theater, we present concerts that cross cultural and musical barriers and provide a forum for diverse lectures and demonstrations for students, faculty and the community.

Music and Audio Research Laboratory is an interdisciplinary center at the intersection of science, technology, music and sound, with research connecting a wide range of fields from computing and artificial intelligence, immersive experiences and algorithmic composition, to the latest advances in neuroimaging of the human brain. Our work focuses on (a) understanding and modeling the human cognitive and neural mechanism supporting music and sound processing, (b) innovating the analysis, organization and retrieval of acoustic data, and (c) advancing applications of high societal value in health, accessibility, creativity, and education.

Maija Hynninen, CNMAT affiliate composer, works in concert music, electronic instrument design, and multidisciplinary performances. The essence of her music builds on the unique moments where the parameters of this world are slightly altered to allow a glimpse of another reality to be present.

The Vernon Salon Series, hosted by Anne Rainwater ( ), will present CNMAT affiliated composer and vocalist Sarah Grace Graves on March 10 at 7:30 PM PST. Her program is called Circular Song: an evening of hushed, recursive music, featuring works by Joan La Barbara, Erin Gee, Giacinto Scelsi/Michiko Hirayama, John Cage and herself.

Immersed in state-of-the-art facilities, commercial music students gain real-world experience in music and audio production while refining performance skills in one-on-one lessons with faculty from a range of professional backgrounds.

Graduates of the program are engaged in a wide range of careers as professional performers, mastering engineers, music producers, audio engineers, singer/songwriters, sound designers, and front-of-house engineers.

The Commercial Music and Audio Production program requires six semesters of individual lessons in your performance area and six semesters of major ensembles, along with courses in performance skills, music theory, and history.

To be admitted to any music degree program, you must perform a live audition before a panel of music faculty. Audition days are typically held in January, but an appointment for an individual audition may be scheduled at other times if necessary.

Guitarist Chris Beyt and pianist Pavel Wlosok are active jazz performers with multiple album releases and audio production credits. Justin Leo Kennedy is a composer and sound artist specializing in live electronic music performance.

Audacity is proudly open source. This means its source code remains open to anyone to view or modify.

A dedicated worldwide community of passionate audio lovers have collaborated to make Audacity the well-loved software it is today. Many third-party plugins have also been developed for Audacity thanks to its open source nature.

I'm looking for an algorithm that I can use to determine with a decent amount of certainty if a given piece of audio is music or not. Just a boolean result is fine, I don't need to know the key, bpm or anything like that, I just need to be able to determine if it appears to be music (as opposed to speech). Programming language is irrelevant, but I'll end up converting it to Python.

In a phrase, Fourier analysis. Look at the power of different frequencies over time. Here's speech, and here's violin playing. The former shows dramatic changes with every syllable; the 'flow' is very disjoint and could be picked up by an algorithm which took the derivative of the different frequency bands as a function of time. In paradigmatic music, on the other hand, the transitions are much smoother and the tones are purer (less 'blur' in the graph). See also the 'spectrogram' wikipedia page.

On its surface, this sounds like a hard problem, but there's been an explosion of great work on classifiers in the past 20 years, so many well-documented solutions exist. Most classifiers today usually can figure this out with an error rate of only a few percent. Some classifiers can even figure out what genre of music it is. 2351a5e196
