"American Assassin" is an action film, a spy thriller, a meditation on revenge, and a story about mentors and pupils, but mostly it's a movie that loves to maim and kill people and is very good at it. Dylan O'Brien stars as Mitch Rapp, an American who loses his parents in a car wreck as a child, then fails to save his fiancee from a terrorist attack and vows to find and execute the head of the cell that ordered it. Mitch gets pulled into the CIA, where he's trained as an assassin by Cold War veteran and former Navy S.E.A.L. Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). Then one of Hurley's former trainees, an arms dealer known as Ghost (Taylor Kitsch), enters the picture, and things get murky.

Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy's doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves on to Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn't know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.

A young hot couple enjoys their vacation in Ibiza. Boyfriend proposes at the beach *surprise motherfucker* terrorist open fire for no apparent reason just because they are terrorists. Cue date to imply how long protagonist has trained and yearned for revenge against the terrorists. Turns out he turned into a massive dick and hates everyone and everything that doesn't go his way. CIA see him as a prime candidate to train into an assassin for America. Good choice, choose the white boy with anger issues and doesn't follow the rules or respect any command and somehow defeats Yuri Boyka in MMA which is ridiculous. American Assassin has a messy and confusing plot with decent fight scenes but nothing to really establish it from any other action films. Dylan O'Brien was a weird choice to lead a non-teen based action film. Saoirse Ronan was a more believable badass in Hanna than O'Brien and she was like 12.

Director Michael Cuesta, whose credits include the movie "Kill the Messenger" and the Showtime series "Homeland," was quick to praise his star. "I think Dylan brought an innocence and a boyishness, boy-next-door quality to the character," he said. "Dylan doesn't look like your typical assassin."

Still in the car Rapp is sizing up Hurley who is standing on the porch of the house as Kennedy walked up to the porch to talk to Hurley. Hurley isn't excited about having to take on a recruit who hasn't been through basic training. Kennedy reminds him that he has failed to produce a recruit who meets all three of the program's objectives; training operatives to get down and dirty when needed, creating a highly tactical assault team, and teaching operatives how to be an assassin. Hurley had done well with the first two objectives but had so far failed with the third. Kennedy convinces him to take on Rapp and warns him that he is to be treated the same as the other recruits.

In 1789 the newly reformed American Templars started attacking the assassin Headquarters the Homestead and tracking down and killing many assassins such as Duncan Little and Stephane Chapheau. The brotherhood was crippled until the Son of Connor came and helped rebuild brotherhood and help destroy the new Templar threat.

Heartbroken and furious, Mitch decides to become a one-man wrecking crew against terrorism. He's too reckless to be trusted in a martial arts class or on a gun range. Nonetheless, the CIA is impressed with his obsessive drive to kill terrorists, and his can-do attitude to do just that. So they bring him onto a special team where his discipline problem will be alternately ignored, proclaimed as the reason he's a perfect assassin, and as the likely cause he'll die in the field. We're at once supposed to admire and fear for Mitch because of his lack of self-control. But it's near impossible to muster any emotion over the stoic performance of the handsome but bland O'Brien.

A young American joins a deniable group of government assassins in the hope of revenge against the terrorists who murdered his fianc. His first mission is to prevent one of his predecessors from building a nuclear weapon.
