A modern sans serif typeface family, all versions of Aller Standard include some interesting variations: in the regular form, the tail of the uppercase Q floats just below the baseline and ordinarily joined angles just barely touch in lowercase letters k, x, and y, giving the typeface a very airy appearance. Aller Display is a heavier weight, and includes complementary quirks: The lowercase letters in Aller Display are a combination of bubbly uppercase and lowercase glyphs, which give Aller Display somewhat of a dated look (reminiscent of a font created in the 1970s to try to look futuristic).

All versions are legible at text sizes, and also work well at display sizes; plus they include upper and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation, mathematical symbols, some diacritics, and special characters.

I'm using the TCPDF library to generate a PDF file with PHP. I want to use a custom font so I used the addTTFfont method to add my custom TrueType font files. The font I am trying to add is "Aller" from fontsquirrel.com

This created the files aller_rg.php, aller_rg.ctg.z, and aller_rg.z in my TCPDF fonts folder. The K_PATH_FONTS constant points to this directory. The addTTFfont method returns the string name of the font. It would return false if there was an error so the problem is probably not here..

The pdf is generated without any errors. When viewsed in the browser preview the font is clearly not aller but just a generic sans-serif.. When I open the pdf in Mac's Preview application the sections that are using the aller font are blank (no text displays).

Franklin Gothic has been used in many advertisements and headlines in newspapers. The typeface continues to maintain a high profile, appearing in a variety of media from books to billboards. Despite a period of eclipse in the 1930s, after the introduction of European faces like Kabel and Futura, they were re-discovered by American designers in the 1940s and have remained popular ever since. Benton's Franklin Gothic family is a set of solid designs, particularly suitable for display and trade use such as headlines rather than for extended text. Many versions and adaptations have been made since.

It can be distinguished from other sans serif typefaces by its more traditional double-storey a and especially g (double-storey gs, common in serif fonts, are rare in sans-serif fonts following German models, but were quite common in American and British designs of the period), the tail of the Q and the ear of the g. The tail of the Q curls down from the center of the letterform.

In this post, We are presenting a modern Sans-serif typeface known as Aller Font. This stylish typeface was developed by a popular and intelligent designer known as Dalton Maag. This beautiful font was released in August 2008 by the Danish School of Media.

By using this typeface, you can create movie logos, animated logos, drama titles, official companies logos, and other related purposes. You can use this font for product packaging, shops, and hotels names, banners designs, and branding products.

Essentially, I open a PDF (unknown who produced it or how much it's been modified since then), but on some computers I get the error "Cannot find or create the font 'ArialMT'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.", while on others, I get no error dialog at all, but some text is just white boxes while other text (even within the same word or even just a closing bracket (i.e., ']') shows up fine:

From digging into the issue, I understand that some version/variation of a font wasn't embedded when the PDF was created, but what I don't understand is why I can open the exact same PDF in various PDF applications and some of them are able to display the entire PDF without any issue. To wit:

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (2021.005.20060) - White boxes

I ran the document in question through PreFlight and of course it finds a host of issues (font name is not unique; font not embedded; font reverts to .notdef glyph; text cannot be mapped to unicode; etc.).

So my questions are thus: Am I essentially boned on being able to get Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to open this PDF without issue, or at to display everything correctly and, if not, why does it open (and print) correctly with Nitro PDF (of which I'm not typically a fan, but it seems a mite less ... complexified than AAPDC)? ff782bc1db
