These couple of episodes felt a little slow but necessarily so. I loved the deeper exploration into Jin Bu-yeon, the character development of Nak-su and the surprise tying in of something that we saw in earlier episodes that I thought was a temporary plot device that I thought we were done with.

Whatever displeasure I felt from ep 15 is completely gone. Even my hubs, who watched with me, complimented the writing and wanted to go back to watch the episodes he missed since I watched them without him.

Then in this upcoming week's episode, we see both Seo Yul and Dang Gu visiting Naksu and Jang Uk in Danhyanggot despite Naksu initially telling them she was going to Sari. Smart cookie Seo Yul went with the assumption that Mu Deok is actually Naksu and therefore he headed to Danhyyanggok instead of Sari. Naksu had probably mentioned to Seo Yul that she was from Danhyanggot back during their love bird days.

Up to here, it makes sense, but when the metaphor starts to extend itself, things get weird. In episode 5, when the Crown Prince hears that Jang Wook warmed the water his turtle swims in (just go with it), it sends him spiralling down a tunnel of introspection.

As for Yul + Naksu, if he has the body somehow, he may well hide her out where he is. But I think the romance line for that is done, with nails in the coffin (I am very sorry to those who were hoping for that). That scene in ep 19 was too final. However! I think we have a use finally for the medical granddaughter! She is a nice character and smart, and Yul needs continual medical care, and I have a feeling it will be him, not the crown prince, who ultimately starts something with her. And yeah, it sounds like that blood worm will continue to be an issue for him. I wonder how many episodes before the bad guys realize they can control/affect him with it. Anyway, I would be happy if the two of them ended up together, as both are nice people and deserve some happiness.

This show irritated me so much that I couldn't even be properly irritated with the one character I wanted Dead since episode 1 and that's Jin Mu. He is like a honey badger. I love the actor that plays him, but he was such a queen in this drama. I was waiting for him to walk the runway like RuPaul's Drag Race singing "Sashay Chante".

I understand that the writers wanted to make things right as it is quite weird and strange to have the male lead and female lead get married and have children and live happily ever after with the female lead having 2 souls in a body that isn't even hers. However, they could have fixed it up right in the middle of season 1 so we could have seen the relationship development of the two with the soul in the correct body and have not invested on Mudeok and Uk. Also it would have given us a chance to have gotten to know Buyeon much better as a separate entity or body from Naksu's soul. But whatever. I'm over it. LOL! I'll let the writer write whatever they want to write. I give up. LOL!

I have to admit: I was kind of worried about this episode giving me ideas for the blog. The first viewing I was so engrossed with what was unfolding only two things really stood out to me (the final two topics below). Then I watched it again, and whoa, there is a lot happening in this episode. And, of course, spoilers abound here, so read at your own risk! (Spoilers include bits from subsequent books, the broad narrative, and episode specifics.)

After premiering its first episode on Netflix last week on December 10, Alchemy of Souls is being simulcast on the streaming service, complete with English subtitles. For Korean audiences, season two will be broadcast via cable network tVN.

Personally, I find Jung So min so bland. Idk why but her roles are the same always except this one. In this drama she is doing great job but in the very first episode, for me, Go yun jung lready overshadowed her. I fell in love with this actress in the actress. For me, she suits the best to be Naksu

I think this is a matter of timing. We are just getting into the characters and story, so releasing that there will be a Season 2 with the current female lead not appearing, is a bit premature. The audience has over 10 episodes of the first season left and viewers are beginning to get invested in the current season so it does make you think why get invested in it when it will most likely go to help in a handbasket like most dramas over 16 episodes

In the second season of Alchemy of Souls, it was revealed that Mudeok was, in fact, Jin Bu-yeon and was rescued by the Jin family with the help of Senior mage Lee. He did keep the fact to himself for three years. Jang Uk and Naksu were, however, meant to meet again. It is only in episode 8 that the two of them realize the truth.

The answer comes in the final moments of episode 10 of Alchemy of Souls season 2. Jin Seol-ran decides to give complete control of Jin Bu-yeon's body to Naksu and disappears after the Fire Bird is taken care of. Following this, Jang Uk and Naksu, with the blessings of the mages of Jinyowon and Songrim, live as a married couple. They are handed the responsibility of hunting down the relics that escaped from Jinyowon's mansion during the fight.

There is also the beginnings of a love triangle between Nak-su, Jang-Wook, and Seo Yul (Minhyun). Seo Yul is also part of one of the four prestigious magical families, like Jang-Wook is, and appears to be an old friend of Nak-su's. He will likely cause friction between the two leads and be another obstacle on their romantic journey. So far, this suggests that this Korean Drama brings a new take to the Romance Fantasy genre, and with 20 episodes expected to be released weekly on Netflix, there will be plenty of Alchemy of Souls to keep audiences sated.

This scene is from the sixth episode of Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow. Here, Bu-yeon expresses to Jang Uk that she thought she was going to marry Seo Yul. Then, she ends up confessing to him that if she had met him first, she wouldn't have run away. But that's not all, as Bu-yeon tells him that she will go to find out more about her true identity with Seo Yul when they go to Danhyanggok.

This scene is from the second episode of Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow, and it starts with Bu-yeon looking for Seo Yul with the intention of breaking off their engagement. She hadn't realized that Seo Yul is not her fianc, which makes it quite a heartwarming scene for the audience.

After nearly two decades, I felt the same sort of excitement and awe watching the second part of Alchemy of Souls (AoS 2) After watching the first two episodes, I genuinely felt as though the writers of the show secretly hooked up an EEG machine while I was asleep, analzyed my brain, and wrote an entire show with every possible trope out there in the romance that has me squealing, jumping, and giggling:

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol is a drama that I really wanted to love. DDSSLLS had a very strong opening narrative that positioned it to become one of the best romantic comedies of the year. This drama could have been the heartwarming romance between two broken people leaving their elitist roots to discover the joys of a small town middle class lifestyle. The chemistry between Goo Ra-Ra and Sunwoo Jun was irresistible in the first few episodes, where you truly felt like you were watching a fairytale unfold right in front of your eyes. The supporting characters made the show an enjoyable watch as well with their perfect comic timing and the show really felt like it could be one of those smooth healing dramas that could provide us with the much needed wholesomeness and warmth. However, this drama was anything but a smooth ride and it soon became a car headed off a cliff. One of the most disappointing decisions that this drama has made was the use of too many unnecessary plot twists that leave the viewers confused and overwhelmed. Its a drama, where you truly felt like the writers were throwing every plot twist ever envisioned in a romantic drama and expected you to take it seriously. Additionally, this drama probably had one of the worst endings of 2020. I was left with more disappointment watching that final scene than I felt watching the Gossip Girls finale. Overall, DDSSLLS is a drama that is burdened by complexities, when its true excellence and beauty comes from its simplicity.

Repetition: The repetitive nature of the plot is such a big minus to the show and weakens the overall plot. Towards the end of the show, it was obvious that the creators are running out of ideas. The last few episodes honestly feel like a blur with Baek Young repeating the same lines over and over again like a broken record. You start to wonder if the show writers like the manhwa writer struggle to write good dialogues and have simply resorted to reusing the same scenes. Even the romantic fluff gets nauseating towards the end simply because its over done and it does nothing to move the plot forward cause its does nothing but reinforce the fact that the two leads like each other. ff782bc1db
