There are many decent pdf readers available for a Linux system these days, my own personal favourite being Okular. However if you are really keen it is still possible to install Adobe Reader X1 (version 11.0.08) under Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 using wine. It just takes a little bit of finesse :).

When the reader first loads select the option "Always open with Protected Mode Disabled" seen in the first screen. Then for the most part you should be set although I have not extensively tested all available options.

Download Adobe Pdf Reader For Ubuntu

I'm using ubuntu 14.04. I want to set acrobat reader as a default app for PDF files. Right clicking and going "open with" does not get me anywhere because app is not listed. not even under "other applications. Same thing with going through properties and selecting "open with".

I am trying to run adobe acrobat dc under bottles. I downloaded the exe and uploaded it onto bottles, but when I click the run button. It doesn't work. Please help. I really don't want to have to spin up the virtual machine and the available PDF editors for linux isn't on par with adobe's.

(adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({}); Adobe reader is the most essential PDF viewer . This guide helps you to install adobe reader in ubuntu 14.04 Desktop.

As of now adobe reader is not included in the official ubuntu 14.04 repository. you need to download and install Manually . Adobe has already released .dep package for debian which can be used for ubuntu 14.04.

Since the reader in the DC version can be connected to cloud services, it is possible to access your files across different devices. But in addition to this function, the DC version offers other advantages compared to other programs. This makes it possible to use integrated text recognition to scan paper documents and convert them into PDFs.

We cannot install Adobe reader directly on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS because it is not available in Debian binary format. Hence, we need to use Wine. However, the good thing we can use SNAP to install both Wine and Adobe reader in an isolated environment. Just use the given snap command on your Ubuntu Linux.

(Optional) Automatic updates of Adobe reader may break or make the installation unstable until the developer of this Snap is not releasing the update. Therefore, you can disable the internet connection access of Acrobat using the given command, if you want.

This runs smoothly with pdfpc on ubuntu 14.04, but evince complains about being unable to launch external application and adobe reader dc (windows 10), complains about being unable to open file videos/flockingvideo.mp4?autostart&loop.

I am quite happy, that I can present with my ubuntu, but the reality of things are, that I will probably have to present on windows machines usually, so it would be nice to have a pdf that really is "portable" as its name suggests :) Is there a more universal way to specify autostart and loop? I could live without loop.

If there isn't one: does anybody know a solution to create pdf with videos that play both on linux (preferably with pdfpc) and on windows (i.e. adobe reader on windows)? Even better if it also works with lualatex and xelatex. Right now I know how to embed flash, that play nice on windows but not on linux and the above method, which doesn't play on windows.

I was able to fill XFA forms with "Acrobat Reader DC Reader" with Wine. I've installed it using PlayOnLinux. The installed version is: 15.10.20056.167417 and can be downloaded at It let me fill XFA forms that with any native Linux PDF reader I couldn't even print the forms for filling it manually.

I really wonder why a bug and I would call it a bug (now matter what shankao tries people to talk into). What I am useing is kubuntu 13.04 and this stupid error message and the icon persist. All comments in this thread which are not about reporting this issue are basically useless. Sorry to say.

Linux is a great system but some software perfomrs poorly on it. Adobe acrobat reader is a remarably bad example for this. It is more annoying features than the icon which users complain about in this thread. Maybe it is a wise idea to just throw acroread in to trash.

More importantly I killed the "/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/SynchronizerApp-binary" process that was running - I believe this prevented the change in the setting from being applied initially. After I killed this process and restarted reader, the error went away.

For 64bit systems read this: _reader_811_faqs/

The 32bit versions of required libraries have to be installed to solve the problem. Actually, I did not try it. Does someone have an idea how to easily install those 32bit libs on 64bit ubuntu?

3) The bluegriffon package seems to provide all the required libs. You can try:

- download the i386 version of the package for ubuntu

- unpackage it

- create a ~/lib32 path

- create or edit a startup script for your shell, setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include ~/lib32.

- source the script to assure that your current environment has the correct library path

- copy the libxul.so from bluegriffon to ~/lib32

- run ldd on ~/lib32/libxul.so

- copy all the libraries that are currently not found from the bluegriffon directory or install them via apt (making sure that you install the 32 bit version of the libraries)

Now, seriously, acrobat reader is a joke on linux, the fact that they are still providing an obsolete binary for it is just doing more damage than good. They do not even do it properly. Why don't they just embed the needed libraries.

i apologize for the very ignorant question. I need Adobe 8 or higher pdf reader to use a necessary pdf document, and I cannot find out how to download it for endless after looking on google.

If you can please send me a link so i can download it it would be of great help.

Sorry again for my incompetence with this question

best,T.

hi egrath,

thanks very much for your response.

It is for an emergency visa to travel to Canada in times of COVID.

On the official Canadian government page I try to download the pdf for the visa and it says, I need adobe reader or I cannot download the visa form.

The debs you posted are 32-bit - are there 64-bit ones, too?

Practically every Linux distribution comes with a PDF reader out of the box, so there may not be much interest in Adobe Reader for Linux.

But I know there are numerous PDF readers under Linux, my favorite is Okular but I have a problem with documents that have legal value and that I can not read and print with any software under Linux (I tried them all)l. I also tried Master PDF Editor (which is very efficient) and Foxit Reader (which is also available under Linux) but none of them works with XFA modules. Only Acrobat can read them and print.

If we also take into account that these "extra" features require code execution (JavaScript if I remember correctly) making Adobe Reader the default reader on Linux may not be a good idea; in fact, it is NOT a good idea. The best thing if these functions are needed is to install the program as proposed in the article but only use it selectively in the pdf's that require it, or if it is necessary for us to use it continuously, resort to the wine + Acrobat Reader for Windows combo.

This release features GNOME 2.31, Linux kernel 2.6.35-6.7, Xorg X Server 1.7.5, GCC 4.4.4, and KDE 4.5 RC 1 for Kubuntu. Btrfs is available for those who perform manual partitioning. The Ubuntu Software Center has seen some GUI tweaks, microblogging sharing, and more available data in the History tab. The sound volume applet has also received some attention with expanded functionality and is closing in on the visions expressed for it at the Ubuntu Developer Summit. The Unity netbook interface got some updates to the GUI as well mostly thanks to the introduction of global menus. Perhaps the most significant change for some users is Ubuntu is now compiled for i686 processors. So those with older machines are out of luck.
