With the stars shining overhead and your campfire blazing away, nighttime offers plenty of great camping activities. The options are nearly limitless as to what you can do at night in the great outdoors. If you need help planning a few fun nighttime activities, here are some options that the whole family is sure to love.

The nighttime can be the best time for some late-night games. Two classics that will never go out of style are nighttime hide-and-seek and flashlight tag. The darkness adds an extra dimension of interest. Just be sure to keep everyone safe during the games, especially the younger campers. If your group has very little campers, try pairing up in teams to make sure that they have a buddy!

No matter what nighttime adventures you have planned for your camping trip, keep in mind that most campgrounds have quiet hours. So have fun, but also be respectful of your fellow campers and campground rules so that everyone can enjoy their camping trip.

A camping unit must occupy the reserved campsite by 3 p.m. on the second day of the reservation and be present for the duration of the reservation. If you do not check-in and occupy your reserved site before 3 p.m. the day after the scheduled arrival date and remain for the duration of the reservation, you will forfeit the site.

Wisconsin State Park campsites are enjoyed by millions of people each year. To assure the greatest access to campsites, a maximum length of stay has been established. No one may camp or leave a camping unit in a family campground for more than 14 days in any 21-day period.

For family campsites, advance reservations booked prior to May 15 for stays between May 15 and Oct. 31 require a minimum two-night reservation. Sites that are still available after May 15 for the current camping season, may be reserved for one night. Backpack sites and group campsites are available for one-night reservations.

If a camper decides to leave early, they may be entitled to a refund. No refund will be given for the current night after the 3 p.m. checkout time. Any refunds must be done through the property office, and campers should call the property office directly. If a staff member is not present, please leave a message.

The parks are closed to non-campers between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. All visitors must leave the park by 11 p.m. During closed hours, campers must be in or be en route to their registered campsite. No camping party may set up or take down a camping unit between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Plan your camping to produce as little trash as possible. Campsites, buildings and picnic areas, do not have trash cans. However, there are some dumpsters in the campgrounds for use by registered campers. Bins are also available for recyclable items of glass, plastic, aluminum and tin.

If you or any member or guest of your camping party violate any state law or Department of Natural Resources rules, you may be evicted from the park, have your camping permit revoked and lose any fees you have paid.

Bring your troop to the Safari Park for a sleepover they will never forget! Designed especially for Girl Scouts ages five and older and their troop leaders or adult chaperones, this Roar & Snore sleepover offers a special Safari Park experience that you can only get at night. All campers will receive a special Roar & Snore patch for participating.

Hidden Valley, White Tank, and Belle Campgrounds are first-come, first-served. To secure a campsite,

1. Locate an empty campsite.

2. Occupy the site (set up a tent or leave personal items to show site occupancy).

3. Proceed immediately to an entrance station to complete registration and pay. You must pay for the site within one hour of set up. The fee is $15 per night.

If arriving after entrance stations close, payment may be delayed until the following morning. Fee collection rangers may be available in the campgrounds as a convenience to visitors in the morning, but should not be relied upon as a primary means for site registration.

First-come, first-serve campsites are highly competitive on holidays, most weekends, and the springtime. They are full nearly every weekend from Sept-May and most weeknights during our busy spring season from mid-February to mid-May. On the weekends, they are typically full by Friday afternoon. The earlier you arrive in a week, the better chance you will have to secure a site. To avoid disappointment, reserve a site at recreation.gov.

Then you will need to book an additional site. Exceeding the maximum number of allowed guests commonly leads to out-of-bounds camping, vegetation damage, and noise complaints. If site capacity is exceeded, extra guests will be asked to leave or the site may be forfeited.

To avoid cancellation, please call 760-367-3001 and leave a message for the park if you are arriving one or more nights late. If you do not plan on using your reserved nights, please cancel them on recreation.gov to give others the opportunity to use the campsite.

Creating Multiple User IDsPlease note our California State Parks Reservation Policy: Reservations that are made for California State Parks are for personal use only. Any resale, transfer, use for profit activity, or memberships that are not approved in advance by the State are strictly prohibited and will be subject to immediate cancellation without notice, refund or reimbursement. For most of our parks, there is a 30-night maximum stay limit per customer in a calendar year; please check individual park policy limits. Creating multiple user IDs to bypass the 30-night rule is not acceptable. Reservations made under individual unique multiple user IDs will not be honored. If you attempt or participate in any prohibited or unlawful activities, your account may be blocked, terminated and cancelled without notice and you may not be allowed to make any reservations or open new accounts.

When you arrive, present your reservation voucher or confirmation number and a form of photo identification.

If you arranged for a discount when you made your reservation, proof of eligibility must be shown at this time.

Campsite assignments are made upon your arrival unless your reservation is in a site specific park. If you reserve two sites in a non-site specific park, park staff will try to assign adjacent campsites, subject to availability.

Dogs must be kept on leashes no longer than 6' and in a tent or enclosed vehicle at night. Except for service animals, pets are not allowed in park buildings, on trails, or on most beaches.

Check out by noon on your departure date.

A campsite will be held for you until 12 p.m. the day after your arrival date. If you have not called the park before that time, you will be considered a "no show" and the park will cancel your reservation. You will be refunded the amount paid for the campsite, less the non-refundable $7.99 reservation fee, the $7.99 cancellation fee, and one night use fee. If you miss your first day but plan to arrive later, you must call the park each day to hold the remainder of your reservation.

If you must leave the park one or more days early, a cancellation fee of $7.99 and reservation fee of $7.99 will be assessed per reservation; you must check out before 12 p.m. Retain your camping confirmation letter until you have received your refund or your charge card has been credited. Allow at least 30 days to receive your refund.

If California State Parks closes a campground due to an emergency or disaster, our reservation provider will make every effort to notify you. In the event of an evacuation or park closure, you will receive a refund for nights the park was evacuated and/or closed.

Each campground has a limit on the consecutive number of nights a camper may stay. Once this consecutive night limit has been reached, the campground must be vacated, and no one in the party may return to camp in the same park for 48 hours.

Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park. Although your site may hold 2 or more vehicles, your reservation only covers 1 vehicle (except for group or specialty sites).

Whether use is subject to reservation or on a first-come, first-served basis, unoccupied accessible campsites shall be held for persons with disabilities until 5:00 pm each day. If an accessible campsite is not occupied by 5:00 pm the site may be occupied on a first-come, first-served basis to a person without a disability for one night only. This process repeats daily.

Nightly camping rates vary from campground to campground based on different criteria. Campsites with an electric amenity (electric, electric/water, sewer/electric/water) are priced differently for those with 30-amp service than for those with 50-amp service.
