Other darker, more radical theories claim that Elizabeth McNeil is evil and actually worked with Betruger all along, being a "failsafe" if the original invasion failed. That would explain why she wanted Swann to go to Mars so badly in Doom 3, since his death would trigger Earth reinforcements on Mars, leading to a full scale Earth invasion. After the invasion failed, she needed to reactivate a portal to Hell using the Artifact and later power it up to continue Betruger's plans. Since the Marine grew too powerful, she entrapped him on Hell and took Betruger's role for herself as the one to bring Hell to Earth. Now, Hell would be the Marine's home. From this theory above, some argue that the Marine also had became a demon. Since the Artifact had shown the Marine's hand corrupting, and his anti-hero personality seemed to like consuming living souls, it's possible that he became fully possessed by his powers, turning into McNeil's mightiest warrior - thus leading to a possible sequel that involves the original protagonist of Doom 3. (However, this theory is unable to explain why McNeil wants the Artifact returned to Hell and destroyed, rather than, say, getting the Marine to hand it over to her. Also, she and the Marine use the pre-existing Delta Labs portal to deliver the Artifact to Hell rather than use the Artifact to create one.)
ROE is much more action-packed than the original Doom 3. You will find yourself in some much bigger fights this time around. The main character looks and acts much more like the original doom guy now. The game has a cooler intro and a cooler ending. The old lost souls, which looked completely retarded, have been redone so that they look like flying skulls again. The game has nice boss fights. And of course they added the double barreled shotgun, which is the icing on the cake.
In the multiplayer department, the official maximum number of players that can be in a game has been increased to 8 and there is a CTF gamemode. Also, I'm not sure if this means anything to you but the game does include 4 new deathmatch levels. One of these is set in the martian ruins and the other three are set in Hell, which adds some diversity to the original selection.
I would recommend you pick it up.

Fittingly for a game involving Satan's spawn, Resurrection Of Evil starts off like a house on fire. Stolen mercilessly from Half-Life 2, the first new toy you get to play with is the Ionized Plasma Levitator, or 'The Grabber', or, more accurately, the game's Gravity Gun. Working in a virtually identical manner to Valve's creation you can pick up and lob small to medium-sized objects at enemies, or in some cases pick up the enemies themselves and propel them (such as the flaming skulls) to their instant doom. You can't, however, chop zombies' heads off with handily placed saw blades, so minus points for that particular oversight.
It's also a game that largely uses the exact same creatures as previously, meaning there's little sense of the unknown, but what is known is fabulously animated, brutally evil and incredibly detailed. There are one or two new creatures, admittedly, but these are really just variations on what's already there. Nerve tends to save its best moments for the various boss encounters that appear every two hours or so, but, again, your new time-slowing abilities combined with your Grabber make short work of anything the game can throw at you.
