Duelling over Gear 2020

The Duelling over Gear (Guinness) is a double elimination knockout competition for singles and the second on-water challenge of the VCRC 'Plan-C' Regatta Season.

Date: Saturday July 18th - Sunday July 19th


After carefully reading through these pages:

  • Juniors: All VCRC juniors are automatically entered into this event. If you can't participate please go to the UnRegistration page and unregister as soon as possible.
  • Open: Go to the Registration page to register.

The DoG draw/progression can change drastically depending on the number of participants.

It is therefore important to have reliable numbers early. Please (un)-register early. Thanks!

Deadline for registration is Sunday July 12th at noon.


  • Juniors: Free! Covered by your program fees and the good will of the volunteers.
  • Open: 2 beers, one for the beer pool and one for the LOC.

Participants: All the members of VRS organisations (VCRC, HUB, UVIC, NTC)

Fleets and Pods: If possible, all the participants will be competing during their regular training times with their regular training group. VCRC members should check the Boat (allocation) page for details.


  • Sunday July 12 12pm: Submit your ranking (just for Juniors; see Race Format page for details)
  • Sunday July 12 12pm: (Un)-Registration dead line
  • Monday July 13 8pm: Mandatory orientation (zoom) meeting
  • Saturday July 18th - Sunday July 19th:
    • Saturday 9-noon Fleet A (U17 Women)
    • Saturday noon-3pm Fleet B (U17 Men & U15 Men)
    • Saturday 3-6pm Fleet C (U19 Women & U15 Women)
    • Saturday 6-9pm Fleet O (Open)
    • Sunday 9-noon Fleet D (U19 Men)

Race Format: See the (Race) Format page for more details on the double elimination knockout format.

Course Map: Depending on the weather conditions and forcast on race day the course will be setup in the quitetest corner of the lake. Check the Map Page to see possible race courses.

Draw and Results: Each fleet will conduct their own competition. The winner of the last race/final is the overall fleet winner. See the Draw/Results page for more details.


  • Juniors: The winner of each DoG tree/fleet gets to pick one item from the "Andra Tutto Bene Challenge" gear trove.
  • Open: The beer pool from your fleet.


  • No spectators at the boathouse. Eagle beach and the path allong the highway are a good place to watch from (assuming we can race in the pond).
  • No coaching. Coaches act as umpires, facilitators and organizers.
  • VCRC racing unisuit is encouraged but not mandatory.
