Documents Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Documents (“Documents,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the Documents iOS application (the “App”).

Documents does not require a Documents account, does not provide AI features, does not display advertising, and does not track users across apps or websites. Documents does not upload or store your documents, scans, or photos on servers operated by us.

Your content is stored locally on your device. If you expressly choose to create an iCloud backup, the App stores a backup in your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit.

1. Information We Handle

The App may handle the following categories of information:

Document content and metadata. This may include images captured with the camera or document scanner, images selected through the system Photos picker, generated PDF files, document titles, folders, appearance settings, timestamps, ordering information, and internal document identifiers.

App settings. The App stores preferences such as onboarding status, the last opened screen or folder, whether biometric protection is enabled, and similar operational settings.

Subscription information. The App receives limited product, transaction-verification, and entitlement information from Apple through StoreKit to determine whether premium features should be available.

Support communications. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and any message, attachment, technical information, or other content you choose to provide.

Documents does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not collect custom analytics events or advertising identifiers.

Apple may independently provide us with aggregated App Store performance, sales, and subscription reports. If you have chosen to share diagnostics and usage information with app developers in your device settings, Apple may also provide crash or diagnostic information such as the App version, device type, operating system version, and technical details associated with a failure.

2. Camera and Photo Library Access

The App may request access to your camera so that you can scan documents or take photos.

Documents uses Apple’s system Photos picker when you add an existing image. The App receives only the images you expressly select through that picker and does not request unrestricted access to browse your entire photo library.

Selected or captured images are processed on your device and stored as part of your local documents. They are not sent to servers operated by Documents. They may leave your device only when you create an iCloud backup or intentionally share or export a document.

3. Local Storage and iCloud Backup

Documents stores your documents, images, generated PDF files, folders, and related metadata in the App’s local storage on your device.

The App also provides an optional, user-initiated iCloud backup feature. When you select Back Up Now, the App creates an archive containing your documents and folders and stores it, together with limited backup metadata, in your private iCloud database through Apple CloudKit.

Backup metadata may include the backup creation date, document and folder counts, archive size, format version, and an integrity checksum.

Creating a new backup replaces the previous Documents backup. The App also allows you to load the backup onto a device or permanently request deletion of the backup through the Delete Backup action.

The backup feature is not continuous synchronization. Documents does not operate an account-based sync service and does not receive the backup on its own servers. Access to the private CloudKit database is associated with your Apple Account and is controlled by Apple.

Separately, if iCloud Backup is enabled for your device, Apple may include the App’s local data in a system-level device backup according to your iCloud settings. This process is controlled by Apple rather than Documents.

4. Biometric Protection

You may choose to protect access to the App using Face ID or Touch ID.

Biometric authentication is performed by iOS. Documents receives only the result of the authentication attempt and does not receive, access, or store your facial or fingerprint data.

The preference indicating whether biometric protection is enabled is stored locally on your device.

5. How We Use Information

Documents uses the information described in this Privacy Policy to:

We do not use your document content for advertising, behavioral profiling, AI training, or marketing.

6. Third-Party Services

Documents relies primarily on services provided by Apple, including:

7. Payments and Subscriptions

Payments and subscription billing are processed by Apple.

Documents does not receive your full payment card number, bank account details, Apple Account password, or complete Apple billing credentials.

The App may receive limited StoreKit information necessary to display subscription products, verify transactions, restore purchases, and determine whether premium features should be available. Apple may also provide us with sales, financial, and subscription reports through App Store Connect.

You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account or App Store subscription settings.

8. No Documents Accounts, AI, Advertising, or Tracking

Documents does not require registration and does not create a Documents user account.

The App does not provide AI features, use your documents to train AI systems, display third-party advertisements, access an advertising identifier, or track your activity across other companies’ apps or websites.

We do not sell or rent personal information and do not share your information with data brokers.

9. Sharing and Export

When you use an iOS sharing or export feature, the document or PDF you select is provided to the destination you choose, such as another app, a storage provider, a messaging service, or an email service.

Documents does not control how the selected destination processes the content after you share it. The destination provider’s terms and privacy policy apply to that transfer.

10. Data Retention

Local documents and settings remain on your device until you delete them in the App, clear the App’s data, or uninstall the App. Copies may remain in device backups controlled by Apple.

A Documents iCloud backup remains in your private iCloud database until it is replaced, deleted through the App, or removed using applicable iCloud controls, subject to Apple’s retention practices.

Subscription and transaction records are retained by Apple according to Apple’s legal, financial, and operational requirements.

Support communications may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, maintain support records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

Diagnostic and App Store reporting information is retained according to Apple’s settings and retention practices.
