The Poetic Mode of documentary filmmaking invites viewers to experience the world not through facts or linear storytelling, but through emotion, mood, and visual expression. Rather than presenting a clear argument or guiding the viewer with narration, poetic documentaries use imagery, rhythm, and sound to evoke meaning on a more intuitive level. In this lesson, we’ll examine how the poetic mode challenges our expectations of documentary form and opens up new ways of seeing and feeling the world with a close watch of the 2011 film Samsara.
