There are two versions of the game available to most users at any given time, and the "normal" one intended for general consumption - is referred to as the Stable branch. It includes all public servers in addition to all private hive and private shard servers. Though its name should make this obvious, this is the version that has been through more rigorous testing and been found to be playable for the majority of the userbase without any crippling issues. Most builds used for this version have been previously tested for quality assurance by an internal team at the development studio as well as normal users on the game's second public version.

That second version is DayZ Experimental. Users must manually download this version by searching in their Steam library. Steam will download another folder with any files that are necessary to play Experimental version. There is still both Official and Community servers, while stable version's community servers are running by DayZ Server application, experimental version need separate DayZ Experimental Server folder that is available by downloading via Steam library.

Most of the time, users who have downloaded and running the Experimental version on Steam will be unable to play on Stable version servers because they will be using incompatible versions. However, occasionally the Experimental version is running the exact same build as Stable, and under those rare circumstances players are able to play on any server without having to switch between clients. However, Experimental servers are still on a separate hive, meaning character data does not carry over from the Stable version or vice versa.

Users can move back and forth between the Stable and Experimental version by playing on separate game clients, it either can be DayZ (stable branch) or DayZ Experimental (experimental branch). Follow the simple steps below to switch between them.

First, let's talk about how to capture your thoughts, ideas, and observations so that you can reference them later and use them to submit feedback in some form or another. Personally, I'm a huge fan of keeping a pen and a notepad next to the keyboard when I'm playing, that way I can take notes about a bug I've encountered or write down ideas without having to Alt+Tab out of the game and without risking the possibility of forgetting it all later. Some may see this as old school, but it's important to have a quick and ready method of recording these things. Alternatively you could use a note-taking app on your phone or tablet, have a second monitor or computer available, etc.

Compiling information for feedback doesn't have to be exclusively text either -- sometimes a picture or video is just as helpful if not better. If you are so inclined, I recommend checking out the the various methods of in-game video capture such as Fraps, Bandicam, Dxtory, ShadowPlay, etc. Many of these same programs will allow you to snap screenshots as well, but if you just want to create one quickly and don't want to install video software, the Steam in-game overlay is more than sufficient for providing evidence to include with your report. That overlay can be enabled under your "In-Game" options on Steam.

When in doubt, submit a ticket. Don't assume that the development team is already aware of an issue that you've encountered. Others before you may have encountered the same issue and made the same assumption -- "they probably already know." You can't be sure until you check out the Feedback Tracker.

After you have searched and are certain a prior ticket for the same issue does not exist, you can create a new one by clicking the + symbol at the top and choosing either "New DayZ Bug Report" or "New DayZ Security Bug Report" depending on what type of issue you are reporting (see the post linked below if you are unsure what category your report should go to). The form you are given will ask you for all of the information I outlined in the previous section. Provide everything that you are asked for and anything else you feel may be helpful in identifying and fixing the bug, including pictures and video which can be uploaded as part of the ticket. You aren't asked for too many things, but it's better to provide too much information than not enough, so detail as much as you know about the issue because you never know what may help track it down.

Both of these reports can then be uploaded as part of your ticket. You can do this by simply dragging the file from wherever you have it on your computer into one of the text boxes on the form (preferably the "Description" box). Files can also be uploaded by clicking the "Upload File" button that you'll see within the row of icons at the top of each text box.

I know its not anything to do with this patch but I have been noticing having my hydration/food and health/blood full no longer provides immunity to foodborne illnesses. This whole last update i have struggled with this as prior to 1.20 I would fill my meters and carefully loot until they were full then I would go savage and kill and eat dead wildlife where i dropped them(Guts and all raw). Now even with full stats and Multivitamins I notice you get sick immediately and one of the illnesses i think the cholera doesnt ever go away no unless you have tetra pills. I don't know if this is ass was intended so I thought I would shed some light on this. Harder playing hermit and avoid people having to cook everything constantly. Luckily mushrooms are very plentiful and easy enough to find if you just go in the woods and take a moment they start spawning in and once they start you are set.

P.S. I killed 2 players near the fountain in Sobotka on Livonia. Generally don't go after players but first time on experimental and I didn't want to become a victim. Also someone just now running bunkers south from tracks. Fool ran up into the woods at me and ate both barrels of my s/o bk-43. I fired a warning shot and he kept coming. I'm actually having quite a lot fun on experimental. I'm sure my end is near.

Those who think crafting of bolts is tedious and should be in stacks. I agree, it takes a long time but what you want for infinite ammo that once finished exp phase they should be recoverable almost every time, not like now that it's not working as intended as they have said.

I've downloaded the DayZ experimental for Xbox One. Every server that I try to connect to just keep saying connecting failed. When I try to join off of friends that were able to connect it acts like it's going to load and then says connection failed. The people that have been able to join a server said that I just need to keep trying and keep trying and restarting the game. I have been doing it for 2 hours now with no results. I even uninstalled DayZ experimental and reinstalled it I uninstalled the regular Dayz and tried and nothing! Now I've re-downloaded the regular Daisy and I'm trying the experimental and it's still not working. I've tried every server multiple times. I am on the s series Xbox new generation. Please help me

I have tried and tried, but I can NOT connect to any of the American servers, or other world wide servers. I keep getting the error: "connecting failed: an unknown error has occurred" on my xbox one s. Using a wired connection to my router.

I reset the cache, and cleared the MAC address as advised by Dominik via RT. I rebooted the xbox, modem, router, but the game still will not connect. I have reinstalled this game a half dozen times. The only BI forums advice is from 2014 for this specific issue. I have the game on a wire to the router and this should not be happening.

I no longer believe you will help me as I did not get any other response to that initial error report as of Jan 15, 2021. It has been months since I purchased the game, and I have waited and waited, but no fix has been reported. Please let me know how to get a full refund of this game which I can NOT play because of this connection error.

I currently have filters set for: region - Americas, sorting - A to Z, Livonia dlc - hide, full server - hide, favorited - disabled, passworded - hide, whitelisting - hide, mouse and keyboard - disabled.

Are you certain that you are launching the experimental client and are trying to connect through experimental client to the experimental servers? Can you please provide us with the client version that shows in the main menu?

As for the refunds, this space is only used to report in game issues and bugs and does not handle refunds - you will have to contact support for that.

While nearly two million players have paid to act as DayZ's beta testers, there's a much smaller subset of lighthouse customers acting as beta testers to those beta testers. On a handful of DayZ experimental branch servers, changes are rolled out and played with weeks before being introduced to the early access game at large. This week I opted into the experimental branch, keen to inhale the future of DayZ before most players even get a whiff.

Aaaand I'm immediately disappointed. I was hoping for a sneak peek at hunting, cooking, or ragdoll physics, but the four experimental servers running right now are all titled "Accelerated Time Test," an upcoming feature that will allow server admins to fiddle with the speed of the game's day/night cycle. Apart from watching the sun pass overhead while counting under my breath, that doesn't sound like something I can really participate in. Still, there may be hints at other new content, and if there is, I'm going to sniff it out. Plus, I'm expecting a different attitude among players on the experimental branch. After all, we're the most dedicated and curious of DayZ gamers! I bet there'll be a real feeling of community, excitement, and cooperation.
