Here at DNA, as students of Royal Holloway we understand the importance of protesting. At the beginning of the year we experiences the strikes of the UCU (University and College Union) and many of us joined them at the picket lines to protest the, frankly, unacceptable pay gap between male staff and female/ BAME staff. So in the current climate, where we are seeing the institutional racism of American police, we are reminded that it is not just the people of colour in the US who experience police brutality. There will be protests across the UK, in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in the US, so that our governments may realise the severity of this issue.
The LDNBLM scheduled protests are:
Parliament Square, London on Saturday June 6 at 1pm
US Embassy, London on Sunday June 7 at 2pm
See the London Black Lives Matter Twitter here, and follow any advice that they provide if you plan on joining the protests.
