Clancy is a citizen. He is an escapee. He is an exception.
Clancy spends 9 years in Dema. It's never explained where he came from or much about him, and even he doesn't really know. His bishop is Keons. He hears rumors of ‘the old world’ and ‘the outside’ and is inspired to discover what is beyond the walls of Dema.
During the Annual Assembly of the Glorified, Clancy and a group of rebels attempt to escape at night with the hopes of meeting the Banditos outside of the walls, but Clancy is the only one who escapes, and he doesn't find any of the Banditos. Keons is able to locate him and bring him back to the safety of Dema. He credits Keons as having saved his life, as without a proper guide, Trench is impossible to navigate.
Eventually, he is emboldened to attempt escape again. This time, when he does, he manages it by tricking Nico into driving him out of the city. (ft. in heavydirtysoul's MV)
Clancy explores Trench for an unexplained amount of time and eventually runs into the Banditos as he walks down a river. He's approached by Nico, who ‘smears’ him. The Banditos and Torchbearer shower him with yellow petals, inspiring him to resist the smear and escape its grasp. Clancy is recaptured and dragged down back to Dema. (Jumpsuit MV)
In attempts to recall this event, Clancy remembers it as having happened to someone else. In his letters, writing that he witnessed someone else in Trench be dragged away by their Bishop. This is both a result of him having an out of body experience and the memory loss associated with being smeared. After this, Clancy is emboldened to escape once more.
Clancy travels through Trench for another 5 days, not running into any more Banditos, but Keons finds him one morning and takes him back to Dema. He spends a bit of time back there before coordinating with the Banditos (likely by talking to Torchbearer, who projects himself to Clancy) to escape again while the Bishops are busy with a Vialism ceremony. He successfully escapes, and the people of Dema are inspired by the sight of the Banditos. (Nico and the Niners)
Clancy then travels to a Bandito camp and makes rebellious music against Dema with them (Trench album). The camp is attacked, and Clancy is recaptured again. (Levitate)
Clancy spends a few years in prison, and during that time he becomes a bit of a legend in Dema for his letters and music. The Bishops harness his fame and force Clancy to write propaganda for them. This is the Scaled And Icy album, which is a hidden anagram for 'Clancy Is Dead’.
Clancy performs in the Feature Performance Event on Good Day Dema, but spends most of it daydreaming of doing other music with Torchbearer. The show is hosted by two Bishops who use psychokinesis to control the vessels of two corpses of the Glorious Gone which slowly rot and fall apart as the show goes on.
Clancy performs at the Annual Assembly of the Glorified on a submarine outside of the city for the VIPs of Dema. He's guarded by fake Bishops to intimidate him, but there's actually an escape plan underway by Keons, who betrays the Bishops and uses psychokinesis to posses the sea dragon Trash to destroy the submarine and free Clancy and Torchbearer. (Saturday)
The other Bishops kill Keons; Clancy and Torchbearer wash up on Voldsoy and discover creatures (Neds) that give Clancy the ability to use psychokinesis through his antlers, which Clancy uses to control the vessel of Keons and start a fire in Dema. (The Outside)
Clancy and Torchbearer wait on the island for rescue, intending to use Clancy's psychokinesis to fight back against Dema. Maybe 5 to 10 years have passed since Nico and the Niners, as the same kids who appear in that video are all grown up as Banditos.
Clancy reveals that Torchbearer had this all planned out the whole time, and we know from Ned’s Cozy Cabin that he had been communicating with the Neds. Clancy making propaganda may have just been a long term plan coordinated by Keons and Torchbearer to get him to island so he could learn psychokinesis.
The Paladin Strait is filled with embers of inspiration from Clancy, and he and Torchbearer cross the Strait back to Dema. While they're on the boat, Clancy possesses one of the Glorious Gone with his psychokinesis to spread anti-Dema teachings in the city, inciting a rebellion within. Clancy then returns to his own body as he and Torchbearer make landfall back in Trench. (Overcompensate).
Clancy crosses through Trench with the Banditos and Torchbearer, and eventually he meets… the REAL Torchbearer. The Torchbearer that had been with him before was just a projection to guide him. The real Torchbearer had been leading the Banditos in Trench the whole time. (Navigating)
Clancy fashions his Ned antlers into weapons and puts on his rebel red tape and mask. He is joined by an army of Banditos and rebels as they prepare to march on Dema for a final battle.
The Bishops seize vultures and use them to spy on the Bandito army to get information enough to prepare. The remaining Bishops use all their power to perform a mass seizing of the bodies of the Glorious Gone. They all rise from the Neon Gravestones, which they pull apart to use as weapons, and form an army of zombies controlled by the Bishops to protect Dema.
As the rebel army and Banditos clash with the Bishops' army of Glorious Gone, Clancy sneaks into the city underground, utilizing tunnels under the city. He climbs the central tower and fells each of the Bishops he comes upon. The Glorious Gone drop, once again lifeless corpses.
Nico suddenly appears from a door and quickly levitates to Clancy, grabbing him by the throat.
Clancy briefly falls prey to Nico, but finds the strength to open his eyes and prepares for a final showdown against Blurryface. (Paladin Strait)
