Welcome to London DLR Track ("we", "our", "us", or "the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we collect, use, and safeguard your information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and usage when you use the London DLR Track mobile application.
By downloading, installing, or using London DLR Track, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not use the App.
2. App Overview
London DLR Track is a free Android application designed to help commuters and travellers navigate the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) network in London. The App provides the following features: real-time GPS-based station detection and proximity alerts, destination setting with arrival alarm notifications, an interactive map showing all 45 DLR stations across 6 branches, station search functionality, journey tracking with distance and progress indicators, and vibration and sound alerts upon arriving at your destination station.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Location Data
The App collects your device's precise GPS location data to provide core functionality, including detecting your current or nearest DLR station, tracking your journey progress toward a set destination, triggering arrival alerts when you reach your destination station, and displaying your position on the interactive map.
Location data is processed locally on your device in real-time and is not transmitted to, stored on, or shared with any external servers. The App uses a foreground service to continue tracking your location while in the background so that arrival alerts function correctly even when the App is not in the foreground.
3.2 Device Permissions
The App requests the following permissions:
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION: Required for precise GPS-based station detection.
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Fallback for approximate location services.
ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION: Allows continued journey tracking when the App is minimised.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION: Enables the background location tracking service.
VIBRATE: Powers the vibration alert when you arrive at your destination.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Displays journey tracking notifications (Android 13+).
INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required for loading Google Maps tiles and serving advertisements.
WAKE_LOCK: Ensures alarm functionality operates reliably.
3.3 Advertising Data
The App uses Google AdMob to display banner advertisements. Google AdMob may collect certain data as described in Google's Privacy Policy, including device advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID), IP address, general device information (device model, operating system version), and ad interaction data (impressions, clicks).
This data is collected and processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). We do not have direct access to or control over the data collected by Google AdMob.
3.4 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal identification information. We do not collect or store your location history on any server. We do not require account creation or login. We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or files. We do not collect payment or financial information. We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs beyond Google AdMob.
4. How We Use Your Information
The information collected is used solely for the following purposes:
Providing Core App Functionality: Your GPS location is used in real-time to detect nearby DLR stations, track your journey, and trigger arrival alerts.
Displaying Advertisements: Google AdMob uses device and interaction data to serve relevant advertisements within the App.
Improving User Experience: Location data enables accurate map display and station proximity features.
5. Data Storage and Security
All location data is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to external servers owned or operated by us. Your location data exists only in your device's active memory (RAM) while the App is running and is not written to persistent storage.
We do not maintain any databases, servers, or cloud infrastructure that stores user data. The App operates as a standalone, client-side application with no backend server component for user data.
While we implement reasonable measures to protect the information processed by the App, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
6. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party services:

6.2 Google Play Services (Location) — Used to obtain your device's GPS location for station detection and journey tracking. Google Play Services may collect device data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.

7. Children's Privacy
London DLR Track is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
8. Data Retention
Since all location data is processed locally on your device and held only in active memory, no data is retained after you close the App or stop the location tracking service. We do not retain any user data on external servers.
Data collected by third-party services (Google Maps, Google AdMob) is subject to their respective data retention policies.
9. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights and choices regarding your data:
Revoke Location Permission: You can revoke location access at any time through your device's Settings > Apps > London DLR Track > Permissions. Note that this will disable station detection and arrival alert features.
Disable Background Location: You can restrict background location access while keeping foreground location enabled.
Reset Advertising ID: You can reset your Google Advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads through your device's Settings > Google > Ads.
Uninstall the App: Uninstalling the App will remove all locally stored data and stop all data collection.
Manage Notifications: You can manage notification permissions through your device's settings.
10. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties, except as described below:
Third-Party SDKs: Google AdMob and Google Maps SDK may collect and process data as described in their respective privacy policies.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
Protection of Rights: We may disclose information to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.
11. International Data Transfers
As all user data is processed locally on your device, we do not transfer your data internationally. However, third-party services integrated into the App (such as Google Maps and Google AdMob) may transfer data to servers located in different countries.
