Since 2019, Merlin (known online as MadMerlin) has been crafting a unique brand of psytrance, inspired by a journey-driven philosophy and boundary-pushing sound. Merging his path in sound engineering and music production, Merlin’s MadMerlin identity embodies a bold vision: take sound beyond its limits, showing that greatness lies in the journey. Grounded in the 144–148 BPM range, Merlin’s style channels the organic, forest-like essence of artists like Ajja, with driving, bouncy funk rhythms that pull listeners into the present moment.

From a resident DJ at Trenchtown to a performer at festivals like Lost Paradise, Zero Gravity, and SouthernTiPsy’s Exodus, Merlin has shared stages with South African legends such as Headroom, Deliriant, Miles From Mars, Zdlck, Altered Stasis, Forest Critters, Thorne, Drifter, and international icons such as Oxyflux and Scionaugh. His technically precise mixes and energetic, story-driven performances make every set an immersive experience. In October 2024, he played his latest unreleased album to a captivated STP crowd, marking a career high point. After that he continued to play in all the major locations of Cambodia from Siem Riep and Phnom Pehn to the island of Koh Rong where a venue was hired for Merlin specifically to perform.

From sound engineering studies to Asian and European gigs, Merlin’s dedication to refining his craft has only grown. Recently, he won a remix competition, with the track releasing on PsynOpticz Records on November 15th 2024.
