I am originally from Toronto, Ontario. After a couple of years drawing and printmaking at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, I switched to studying philosophy at the University of Toronto, where I earned my BA honors and a Master's degree. After that I completed my Ph.D at the University of Washington in Seattle. I have been a professor at Iowa State since the Fall of 2008.
I live in Des Moines with my wife, Robin Anderson, who is an economist at Principal Financial. We have a son, James, aka The Boy, aka The Jammer, aka Major Mayhem. And also a dog, Lucy, who is part terrier, part blue heeler, and all trouble. These three are the best thing about my life!
