After a recent move to Midcoast Maine, I realized that I had an opportunity to be self employed and do what I love most; Bake! I offered fresh baked scones, as well as a few of my original scone mixes, at the farmers market each week. It was a joy to engage with my new community, and my scones found a new following!

I like these and the blueberry scones the best of all the varieties I have tried so far. My guests love them as well and ask for the source so they can buy their own mixes for their families. Win win all around. Note: I sprinkle coarse Sprinkling Sugar in thew top before baking

The nice folks at Nettwerk Music Group reached out about the possibility of doing some guest mixes and I am pleased to present the first one. This mix comes to us from TJ Dumser who releases music under the moniker, Six Missing. He has a new album coming out in December so the timing is perfect.

I've done Halloween mixes in the past but never one quite like this. I decided to take some of the Latin guitar sounds found in my Guitarissimo mixes, tilt them slight off kilter and give the mix a slightly sinister vibe.

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in themed mixes or guest mixes that I forget about doing a nice straightforward ambient mix. So that's what this is - a mix featuring ambient tracks from 2023. No story to tell, no underlying theme, just excellent ambient tracks to drift away on.

I'm sure I'll snap out of this funk but for now Paul Asbury Seaman comes to the rescue! Just when I needed it, Paul delivers a fantastic berlin-school, train-themed mix. As I've said many times before, I like Paul's mixes because sometimes they go in directions I normally don't go with my own mixes. That's the case again here with these berlin-school tracks. I like sequencer based music but it's not a style I reach for often. And then I hear one of Paul's mixes and I'm like - "Why don't I listen to this music more often?" Whatever the reason, I'm glad Paul is here to remind us about how cool this style can be.

The Xerces Society partners with the native seed industry to produce wildflower seed mixes meeting Xerces specifications, to provide foraging and nesting resources for a diversity of pollinators. For details about species composition, recommended seeding rate, and how to contact the producer, please download the specification sheet for each seed mix.

Regional seed mixes are locally produced in their respective regions by independent farmers, using local eco-type seed wherever possible. Seeds are not treated with pesticides, and are designed to include widely adapted, non-weedy species. Most species require full sun and average soil drainage. For extremely wet, dry, or shady conditions, please contact the respective nursery in your region for recommendations. Note that mixes are designed to include multiple blooming species throughout the entire growing season. Only wildflowers with extensive documented value to pollinators are included. Where appropriate, host plants for regionally important butterflies are included, along with bunch grasses to provide bumble bee nest habitat.

If a recommended seed mix for your region is not featured on this page, we have not yet partnered with a regionally-based seed producer to design a mix. To search for a seed mix that is suitable for planting in your region, please visit the Pollinator Conservation Resource Center to browse the list of native pollinator plant nurseries by region, and then contact seed vendors to inquire about the availability of pollinator seed mixes that are composed of native wildflower species.

Seed mixes are sold based on planting area size. Depending on the region, and the species included in each mix, 1/4 to 1/3 lb is required for each 1000 ft. For areas of 1/2 acre in size, 3 to 5 lbs of seed is required, and for areas of 1 acre in size, 3 to 10 lbs of seed is necessary. In general, this results in 20 to 40 seeds per square foot of planting area.

These seed mixes may meet the requirements for NRCS-administered private landowner conservation programs, such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP), the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), and the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). For cost-share approval, please consult your local NRCS Service Center prior to purchase.

These mixes from Prairie Nursery include high quality annual and perennial wildflowers that provide pollinators with season-long sources of pollen and/or nectar. To provide nesting habitat for bumble bees and other beneficial insects, several species of bunch grass are also included. These mixes are appropriate for habitat restoration in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. Separate mixes are available for sites with dry versus mesic soils.

I might not use cake mixes, but I've certainly seen the boxed stuff fool people as homemade time and time again, especially if you play around with doctoring the mixes with add-ins and frosting recipes.
