Temple travels to Oklahoma to open American Athletic Conference play with a Thursday night matchup at Tulsa on September 28. The game will be available at 7:30pm on ESPN and 97.5 The Fanatic.

LAST WEEK

The Owls lost to the #20 Miami Hurricanes 41-7, on a rain-drenched day at Lincoln Financial Field. Temple had a difficult time slowing down Miami's offense, which tallied 543 total yards on the day. WR Amad Anderson Jr. led the way for the Owls, posting career-highs in receptions (10) and receiving yards (117).

At half time of the game, Temple great Joe Klecko was honored after being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023. The defensive lineman led the Owls in tackles with over 100 in each season he played from 1974-1976.

LAST TIME VS. TULSA

The last time Temple and Tulsa met was at Lincoln Financial Field on Oct. 20 of the 2022 season. The Owls built an early 10-0 lead, but the Golden Hurricane managed to walk away with a 27-16 victory. Lay- ton Jordan recorded a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown, which marked his second defensive score of the 2022 season. Jordan went on to finish the season with three total defensive touchdowns, joining Ndamukong Suh (2008) and Melvin Ingram (2011) as the only other FBS players to record three TDs, two INTs, 5.0 sacks, and 10.0 TFLs in one season.

LAST TIME AT TULSA

The Owls last played at Tulsa in the second-to last game of the 2021 season. The Golden Hurricane won 44-10 behind 514 total yards of offense. Edward Saydee led Temple with 59 total yards from scrimmage and Demerick Morris recorded 1.5 TFLs.

UP NEXT

Temple returns home to host UTSA on homecoming on Oct. 7. The game, which will be the first time the two schools have ever played each other in football, is set to air on ESPN+ and 97.5 The Fanatic at 2 p.m.

Temple is a 2015 play by Steve Waters about the 2011 United Kingdom anti-austerity protests.[1] It premiered at the Donmar Warehouse from 21 May to 25 July 2015, directed by Howard Davies and featuring Simon Russell Beale as 'the Dean',[2] along with Anna Calder-Marshall, Paul Higgins, Rebecca Humphries, Shereen Martin and Malcolm Sinclair.

Traylor spoke to reporters mid-week last week, offering an update on the status of Harris and a few other key players who have been sidelined early this season. UTSA opened with a 17-14 loss at Houston, then beat Texas State (20-13) before losing to Army (37-29) and Tennessee (45-14). Harris was injured against Texas State.

Preface: I first heard about this game from Greg Frock. He saidit came from Japan. We asked him what it was called, and he said he didn'tknow, but that he figured it would be some Japanese word that translatesinto something akin to "Inn of the Sixth Happiness." I mis-rememberedthis and started calling it "Temple of the Sixth Happiness", whichwas then shortened to simply "Temple." Later I realized it's basicallythe same as a game I'd heard of a few years before, called Asshole. I'vesince heard of others who've played it under the names Social Class andCapitalism.

At some point, Richard Garfield ran into it, and after his success withMagic: The Gathering, he decided to tinker with the rules a bit and publishit under a new name: The Great Dalmuti (also available now as CorporateShuffle). While Richard was still tinkering with the rules for Dalmuti,Kristin got a chance to play it with him, and she subsequently gave himthe rules to Temple (below) that I'd written down a year or so before. Heliked something in there (I forget now just what) and that's why Kristin'sname appears in the credits for Dalmuti.

Anyway, despite all the different versions of the game they tried beforesettling on the rules for Dalmuti, I personally think the original gameplayed better. And you don't even need to buy anything to play it, it usesa regular deck of cards.

Overview: Temple is more of a role-playing game than a card game.Each round lasts only a few minutes, but the game can go on for hours andhours, since the game ends only when everyone is sick of playing it. Thereis no "winner" in the typical sense; the object is to become theEmperor (or Empress), and then to stay in power for as long as possible.

How the game is played: All of the cards are dealt out to theplayers, and the object is to rid yourself of all of your cards faster thanthe other players do. Social standing within the context of the game isdetermined by when you run out of cards.

To get rid of a card, you must be able to match and exceed the patternand number of the card or cards played by the person who played before you.The following types of patterns are allowed: Single, pair, three of a kind,four of a kind, plus straight runs.

For example, if the most recent play was a pair of fives, then you couldplay any pair of cards higher than fives, i.e. a pair of eights or a pairof queens or whatever. To play on 3 fives, you need 3 sixes or better. Youmust exceed the number on the played cards (i.e. you can't play a pair offives on a pair of fives) and you must match the pattern (you can't playa pair of fives on a singleton 4).

To play a run, you need at least 3 cards of the same suit, such as the3, 4, and 5 of spades. To beat such a run, you need a numerically greaterrun, such as the 5, 6, and 7 of hearts. If someone plays a 4 card run, youmust match it with a 4 card run to beat it.

Play proceeds around the table in a clockwise fashion. When it is yourturn to play, you may either play on the existing pattern or pass. You neednot be unable to play in order to pass - passing for strategic reasons isquite common. If everyone passes on a given play, then the cards are removedto the discard pile and the person who made that play starts the next patternwith whatever card or set of cards that he or she chooses.

The first person to run out of cards becomes the Emperor in the nextround of play. The second person to run out of cards becomes the Prince,and so on, until only one person is left in the game. This person becomesthe poor man. (Since we were told this was originally a Japanese game, theseare terms we traditionally use; however, other terminology is also acceptable.You can, for example, start with the president and vice president and endwith a bum if you wish.)

This is where the role playing aspect of the game comes in. The Emperormay make virtually any reasonable demand of the other players in the gamewhile he (or she) is on the throne. The less exalted (but still high rankingplayers) may also make demands of those of lower rank, as long as thesedemands are not counter to (or vetoed by) the Emperor. The lower classesmust follow these instructions and will ideally bow and scrape and act obsequiouswhile doing so. "Reasonable demands" include asking for the bestchair and making the other players move to suit him, being brought drinksor other refreshments, and dictating who must shuffle and deal and so on.(The definition of an unreasonable demand will need to be determined bythe players, but the bottom line is that the power should not be abused.No one should be asked to do anything that would make them feel uncomfortable.)

One demand the Emperor must always make concerns seating arrangements.The order of play should run from most important player to least importantplayer. This means that at the beginning of a round, everyone must changeplaces as needed based on their new social standing as determined by theprevious round. The Emperor announces where he will sit, and then the princessits at his left, and on around the circle, so that the poor man ends upsitting at the Emperor's right.

Another edict that the Emperor will always implicitly make concerns taxes.In Temple, the lowest class players must pay taxes to the highest classplayers. The poor man must give his or her highest valued card to the Emperor.After receiving the taxes, the Emperor gives a card back to the poor man.Note that while this will usually be the Emperor's lowest card, it doesn'thave to be, as the Emperor might prefer to give away a four rather thansplit up a pair of threes. ff782bc1db
