Honor Choir Process and Additional Information
Elementary School Honor Choir is not a District VIII CDA auditioned process. However, you may choose to audition or select your top singers.
Each middle school may audition/select 10 students.
CDA Honor Choir will be an SAB group. Please try to select students of each voice part if possible.
Student Letter: Once you have selected your singers, print and distribute this student letter.
Music will be distributed by District VIII CDA once it has been ordered and received.
Students must come to rehearsal knowing their music.
Students and teachers must be present at all rehearsals and performances for the entire duration.

Barbara S. Walker
2024 Elementary School Clinician
Barbara S. Walker received a Bachelors of Vocal Music Education degree from Louisiana State University, a Masters of Vocal Performance and Education from Loyola University in New Orleans, and a Kodály Certification from Sam Houston State University. In 1991, she Co-Founded the Livingston Parish Children’s Choirs along with her mother, Regina Walker. Although Barbara Walker retired in 2018, after teaching public school music for 37 years, she has no plans to retire as Artistic Director and Choral Director for Livingston Parish Children’s Choir. Her LPCC Chorale performed in Carnegie Hall on May 30, 2022.
Ms. Walker is listed in Who’s Who of Outstanding Young Women in America, and Who’s Who in Outstanding Educators in America. Barbara Walker sang with the Houston Grand Opera Chorus for five seasons, performing on stage with opera legends such as Placido Domingo, Joan Sutherland and Mirella Freni. While teaching in Houston, Texas, Ms. Walker was selected as the 1989 Elementary Teacher of the Year for the state of Texas. In 1999, Ms. Walker was selected as the Livingston Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year, and the Louisiana Region VII Elementary Teacher of the Year. She is an active adjudicator and clinician. Her article, “Honor Choirs: Are They Worth Your Time and Trouble?” was featured in the June/July 2019 Choral Journal magazine.
