Dragan Stojnic: A Legendary Singer of Chanson
Dragan Stojnic (1937-2003) was one of the most prominent Serbian and Yugoslav singers of chanson, a genre of music that originated in France and is characterized by lyrical and poetic songs. He lived in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Skopje and Belgrade, cities that influenced him and his musical creativity, but wherever he went, he always carried a song in his heart.

Early Career and Breakthrough
Stojnic's beginnings are linked to the famous Sarajevo ensemble "Prijatelji" (Friends), and he achieved his first major success in 1964 by winning the festival in Kraljevo "Mikrofon je vaš" (The Microphone is Yours) with the song "Bila je tako lijepa" (She Was So Beautiful), which was the French entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1963. The following year, he also won the first prize at the Opatija Festival with the evergreen "Zašto dolaziš samo sa kišom" (Why Do You Only Come With the Rain). After that, in 1966, he performed at the Paris Olympia, the international temple of music, and his records began to sell in large numbers.
The Golden Age of Chanson
Stojnic had his most fruitful creative period in Sarajevo, where he recorded several French chansons during the 1960s, and through the translations of the lyrics, the Yugoslav audience got the opportunity to learn about the meaning and spirit of the French chanson. Besides the texts in French, he also used the texts by B. Stojadinović and N. Vražalica. He successfully collaborated with the Sarajevo orchestra of Esad Arnautalić, who was also the arranger of many of his songs. During those years, he occasionally participated in domestic festivals of pop music (Opatija Festival, Vaš šlager sezone, Beogradsko proleće), and a couple of times he represented Radio Television Sarajevo at the national selections for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Late Career and Legacy
In 1984, he started a series of traditional solo concerts on March 8th in Belgrade, with which he maintained an inseparable bond with the audience. He held numerous concerts and performances throughout Yugoslavia, and thanks to his song, he also visited almost the whole world. He was a longtime associate of PGP RTB, and in 1998 he received the award "Zlatni Beočug" (Golden Bracelet) from the Cultural and Educational Community of Belgrade. In 1991, he sang almost all of the material for the soundtrack of the film "Moj brat Aleksa" (My Brother Aleksa), which tells about the life and work of Aleksa Šantić.
