Conveners: Frédéric Deschamps (IES, Academia Sinica), Pin-Gao Gu (IAA, Academia Sinica) Christine Houser (ELSI, Tokyo Tech), John Hernlund (ELSI, Tokyo Tech), Keiko Hamano (ELSI, Tokyo Tech)
Description: We welcome our community to strengthen existing ties and promote new avenues of research between neighboring Earth science institutes in east Asia through a partnership workshop in Taipei, October 18-20, 2023. The Earth-Life Science Institute in Tokyo is an international hub for research that builds bridges across disciplines and cultures to gain fundamental insight into the origins of planets and the emergence of life. While ELSI is home to scientists with a vast array of expertise, we also build bridges to other institutes around the world to expand our knowledge of diversity our approaches to studying how planets make life. Over the past decade the University of Tokyo's Earth and Planetary Science department has expanded its mineral physics, geochemistry, and rock mechanics into areas that tackle Earth’s origins and plate tectonic evolution. The Institute of Earth Sciences at Academica Sinica (IESAS) in Taipei is the leading Earth Science program in Taiwan with expertise in seismology and geochemistry, providing data and models to investigate Earth’s formation and evolution. In addition, researchers at Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA) have been studying planetary formation and evolution through theoretical modeling and observations of the systems around other stars. The workshop will provide an opportunity to share our future research plans and facilitate discussions for future projects and collaborations.
Location: RCEC building, 1F, Academia Sinica Campus, Taipei. See access and transport information here .
Housing: We booked rooms at the Academia Sinica Activity Center hotel, located on Academia Sinica Campus (see No. 20). Please fill out the form here before October 1st, 2023 (24:00), if you would like to have a room.
