A checklist is a breakdown of all the content and skills you’re expected to know, based directly on the IB Chemistry Subject Guide.
Download the IB Chemistry guide and use this as a checklist for all the content you need to know for a particular topic.
It helps you track what you’ve learned, what needs review, and what you haven’t tackled yet.
Covers all required content: No topic is missed — from bonding and kinetics to spectroscopy.
Promotes active recall: Encourages you to think about what you know rather than just re-read.
Organises your study: Breaks down big topics into manageable goals.
Tracks progress: Shows what you’ve mastered, what needs reviewing, and what you’ve yet to start.
Targets weak areas: Focus revision on your gaps rather than wasting time on what you already know.
Download or Create Your Checklist
Use the official IB Chemistry Subject Guide or your teacher’s topic-specific checklist.
2. Initial Review (Once you have finished a topic)
Go through the checklist and use a simple rating system:
🟢 = Confident (Can explain it to someone else)
🟡 = Unsure (Need to review/practice)
🔴 = No clue (Haven’t learned or completely forgot)
3. Prioritise Your Study
Start with 🔴 items first — these are your biggest learning opportunities.
Mix in 🟡 topics for consolidation.
Use 🟢 topics for spaced retrieval practice or peer teaching.
4. Revise Actively
For each item:
Write a summary in your own words.
Create flashcards or test questions.
Practice related past paper questions.
5. Track Progress Weekly
Reassess your checklist every 1–2 weeks.
Update your colours as your understanding improves.
Aim to turn 🔴 → 🟡 → 🟢 over time.
