Rally is a motorsport which involves taking tuned hatchbacks and racing them in a dirt road in the middle of the finnish backwoods while you drift 150 km/h and jump while trying to not run over the suicidal audience composed by the local farmers. The races are basically time trails, each driver has it's turn on the track and goes to next one, driving in various locales alternating between gravel, tarmac, snow, mud and exposed to the weather and any other hazards God throws in.

And as I said, it wouldn't work if this was an arcade instead of a simulator, the fun comes from juggling all those elements, which would be simplified or downright removed in an arcade game. That's why games like Forza Horizon (certain tracks) or SEGA Rally are rally-themed games rather then rally games. Without all this juggling, you need to race against other opponents to make it truly exciting (nothing against those games btw).

That begin said, I played the career mode but have since moved to other games. To satiate the thirst of Dirt Rally, almost every day I launch it up and play one or two stages in either time trial or the "Daily Challenge". In the Daily Challenge you are limited to either one car or class of cars and have only to do one stage, the catch? You can't restart or exit, and you use the cars from your career mode, so any damages you get you'll have to pay with your career money.

There are lot of car options. All handle and play differently. They are all perfect recreations and sound great. You have from vintage Minis, the uncontrollable monsters of Group B (with one of my favorites, the Audi Quattro and its hellish engine) to the R5, the most modern category (although not the most powerful used irl, that category goes to the Rally1/WRC cars, the R5/Rally2 are used on WRC2 and 3 as well on non-WRC rally competitions). Not to mention RallyGT, the most hilarious category, yes let's try racing a RWD 2-tons Camaro in a shitty dirt road, what can possible go wrong?

In any case, let's talk about technical stuff. Graphics are great, from the semi-arid hills of Greece, rolling plains of Poland, autumnal forests of New England to snow-covered Sweden. They all look beautiful. But the sound is the special part here, it is so great, only play this game in headphones, seriously. Besides the almost pornographic sounds of the cars (shoutout to the turbo flutters and beastial engines of the Audi Quattro S1) you have stuff like gravel hitting the bottom of car, authentic to anyone who has driven a car in dirt roads.

Yes but it treats the bindings as keys I think because I have to turn the wheel all the way for it to react and assign it. So when driving like this I can only apply full steering to right or left which is really weird

when playing a replay in Dirt Rally (Stream), there are only functionkeys (keyboard) showed, for controlling the replay. In addition, it is for me not possible, to change the playbackspeed by steering the wheel.

Dirt Rally 1 was complicated to make it work under Pimax back in the days and literally took me hours to make it work.

You had to install revive and some oculus software and it took lots of frustration before I was able to boot it up in VR on the Pimax headset. Once properly installed it worked perfectly fine though.

I spent years in Richard Burns rally until DR1 came along and ate it for breakfast.

When DR2 came out it ran poorly and I felt DR1 was better (especially on dry dirt). What I had not considered was that the poor performance in DR2 was affecting the FFB translation. Once the sim was brought to where the framerate was consistent the FFB could then keep in sync and the superior physics began to show itself. Especially in terms of wet, mud and snow.

What DR1 is to RBR, DR2 is to DR1 in improvement. Hope Codemasters can do the same with DR3

am I wrong? ... it never seems I have to turn my wheel more than 90 degrees in either direction ... the rally in gt5 controls similar at speed but in sharp or hairpin corners I sometimes swing 900 degrees lock to lock especially with RWD...its much more dynamic as I have to use real world steering skills

I just had an epiphany tonight as i was playing around with Dirt3. I too noticed that the in-game wheel only seems to rotate 180 degrees. And I also noticed that I seemed to have some sort of lag when I turned my wheel quickly. What I found after experimenting is that the best setting for this game (and Forza 3 BTW) is to have your sensitivity on the Fanatec wheels set to 180 to match the in game maximum rotation. With that you have direct 1:1 rotation and it makes the wheel much more responsive.

I also only get 180 degrees on forza 6 and have updated the drivers for the TX wheel and checked it on the PC. It appears to be ok on project cars so am wondering whether it's a forza issue not the wheel. Also strangely the wheel does not show up on the xbox settings devices so I could also be an xbox problem. I am completely stumped. Anyone else had this problem or seen a solution?
