I learned about Rajah Soliman, the last datu of the walled city of Manila. He was a fierce datu and he did not agree to pay tribute to the Spaniards. He fought bravely but he was defeated by the strong weapons of Legazpi and his men.
I learned about the growing Roman empire and the beginnings of Julius Caesar. Julius was born in a noble family and he was a good public speaker. I also learned how he confidently dealt with the pirates who kidnapped him.
I learned how Julius Caesar was inspired by Alexander the Great and how he wanted it badly to become a leader that he was willing to be the leader of a very poor town that he saw in the Alps than to be second in command in Rome. I found it funny how Julius wept after reading the story of Alexander the Great maybe because he was envious of Alexander's accomplishments at a very young age.
I learned how Caesar became very popular that the Senate envied him and was worried about him because he did not really follow them. How they wished that Caesar was like Cincinnatus, a noble leader who led the army when he was needed by Rome but also gave up the opportunity to gain more power in Rome after restoring peace in the land. I thought that Cincinnatus is a better role model than Caesar.
I learned about the time when Julius Caesar was returning to Rome and no one was able to stop him even when the Senate and his son-in-law, Pompey, plotted to overthrow him. I learned that Caesar was really a brave leader while Pompey was a coward even though he was ambitious too.
When Julius Caesar died, many of the Romans were mad because they had no leader. His adopted son, Octavian, held a big gathering and gave some of Caesar's money to the poor, which made him popular. He then became the leader of Julius' army and was placed as one of the consuls. Octavian won many battles and captured many nations, and he brought back peace in Rome. But unlike Julius Caesar, Octavian did not want to be king. He was more like a Cincinnatus. But the Senate insisted on him holding an important position in Rome to maintain peace in the empire. That's when they made Octavian the first emperor of Rome.
I learned that the birth of Jesus Christ happened during the time of Pax Romana under Octavian or Augustus Caesar's rule. I realized how humble Jesus' birth was as he was born in a feeding trough. I was glad to realize that Israel is no longer under the rule of Romans today and surprised that the Roman empire is no more.Â
I learned about Jesus' sermon on the mount and how he became popular and loved by people. The Romans grew envious of Jesus and put him on trial for treason, against the laws of Augustus Caesar. He was crucified but after three days he resurrected!
I learned how the Jewish people was conquered by different nations including the Babylonians, the Persians, and then the Romans. Under the Roman rule, however, the Israelites were driven away from Jerusalem and they were scattered throughout the world. It was just recently that the Jews were able to return to Canaan.
I have been consistently writing on our book of centuries and it's amazing to see how Jesus really lived on earth during the time of the Roman empire!
