I am a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, an affiliated scholar at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, and an affiliated scholar with the Neukom Center on the Rule of Law at Stanford Law School. I am also a Lecturer at Stanford Law School and in Stanford's International Policy Program.
I study the political economy of development, with a special focus on India. In this context, I work on topics related to education, healthcare delivery, economic growth, and institutional reform. I also work on issues related to the US-India relationship, including a book project on the success of the Indian diaspora in America. I hold a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Politics from Princeton and an S.B. and an S.M. from MIT.
My C.V. is here.
I have listed my scholarly papers in my research section, along with my commentary. One recent project I am particularly proud of is a book I co-edited (cover is on the left): The US-India Nuclear Accord: History, Analysis, and Reflections. We got some of the main negotiators from both the US and India to talk through their perceptions of the deal, along with an all-star cast of academics to write about the ramifications of the deal.
