The core consists of a 7/16-inch thick, light-density smooth fiberboard, wrapped in a soft velour-like material to protect the table’s finish. On the surface side, two layers of insulation felt are laminated to create a 3/16-inch protective layer, which is then wrapped in durable vinyl. The finished pad has a total thickness of 5/8 inches, allowing it to lie flat while remaining flexible and sturdy. Only water-based adhesives from Indiana manufacturers are used, and animal glue is never part of the process.

Style is just as important as protection. These pads are available in 22 vinyl top colors and eight velour-like underlining colors. The vinyl surface material is produced in New Jersey, while the velour and velvet-like underlinings are manufactured in Massachusetts, following environmentally responsible standards and complying with California Proposition 65.

In terms of heat resistance, dining table protective pads can withstand accidental heat exposure up to 550°–600°F. However, to protect the pad itself, coasters and trivets should always be used for very hot or cold items.
