MINING
MINING
Barangay Mining is composed of eight (8) zones or “purok.” Many people often ask why it is named “Mining.” Does it have many mines? According to information gathered from two elders who were born during the Spanish era (Juan Tuazon and Osmundo Tuazon), the name “Mining” is derived from the name of a very tall and large tree called kamuning, which used to thrive abundantly in the area. Over time, the word kamuning became Mining due to the Japanese having difficulty pronouncing the original word.
The main source of livelihood in the past was farming—particularly rice, sugarcane, and various vegetables. The residents were known for their industriousness, which made them self-sufficient in food. Farming was the sole occupation in the area. However, as the City of Angeles gradually developed, Barangay Mining also experienced progressive growth alongside it.
