Ryan Trahan, a 24 yr old youtuber with over 13 million subs, hit the road to fame when he began his “Penny Challenge” in 2022. In this challenge, Ryan managed to survive on a single penny for an entire week, while raising over $35,000 for Feeding America in just one month (June 2022). This non-profit org feeds over 46 million people through its 200+ food banks nationwide.
Ryan started his journey of travelling across the U.S. to deliver a penny to well-known YouTuber, Mr. Beast, in just 30 days. He first traded the penny for a pen and then the pen for a dollar. He then used that dollar to buy a water bottle and then sold that for 2 dollars. He kept repeating this method until he had enough to cross the country. In July of 2023, Ryan had a second part of this challenge, where he survived on nothing but a single penny for 1 week.
He started his adventure in LA, where 1 dollar would result to 10 meals through Feeding America. His goal was $100,000, which is equivalent to 1 million meals. Ryan not only achieved, but far advanced this goal by raising over 1.3 million dollars, equivalent to a whopping 13.8 million meals, as part of Feeding America. The top donor to this fundraiser was Mr. Beast, with his huge donation of $100,200. The grand total raised was over $1,388,120, and the total number of donations reached above 14,220. The average donation was $94.95 and in total, they managed to raise 13,881,200+ meals.
