What does RTI mean? -According to the Texas Education Agency, RTI is an approach that schools use to help all students, including struggling learners. RTI gives Texas students opportunities to learn and work at their grade level (Texas Education Agency, 2022). The goal of RTI is to help all students become successful.
Where did this term come from? - The term RTI (Response to Intervention) was introduced in 2004 during the reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Preston, Wood, & Stecker, 2015).
How does an RTI affect general education teachers? RTI is about assisting general education teachers in helping students succeed earlier rather than later. Under RTI, general education teachers are expected to provide effective and high-quality instruction, monitor all students' progress, and provide additional support to students who may be struggling (Monticello Central School District, 2020).
