Color Settings
These settings work for file intended for printing with laser, inkjet and other direct digital printers. Be sure to calibrate your monitor for the specific printer you will be using.
Photoshop Settings for Print
1. Choose Image > Mode > RGB
2. Choose Edit > Color Settings
Settings: North American General Purpose 2
Working Spaces
RGB: sRGB IEC61966
3. Choose Edit > Convert to Profile
Choose Working RGB - sRGB IEC61966
This will embed your color profile so that when you open the file when you are in a different color profile (e.g. web), a pop up window will appear so you can color manage the document. Using convert profile instead of assign profile gives a better color match tot he source file.
4. Choose View > Proof Setup > Working CMYK
5. Choose View > Proof Colors > Uncheck
Note: for small prints (under 10" x 10", your image size should be 300 dpi. For larger images, use 150 dpi.
Illustrator Settings for Print
1. Choose Image > Mode > RGB
2. Choose Edit > Color Settings

3. Choose Edit > Assign Profile
Check Working RGB - sRGB IEC61966
This will embed your color profile so that when you open the file when you are in a different color profile (e.g. web), a pop up window will appear so you can color manage the document.
4. Choose View > Proof Setup > Working CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
5. Choose View > Proof Colors > Uncheck
Notes
In the color mixer, colors with a exclamation point (!) in a triangle are outside the typical 4 color printing capabilities. If you click the caution icon, the program will attempt to find a color within the printers capabilities. This may not be the color you want, so you can choose another color that does not pop up the caution icon.
