Always attempt to find the original source of the image, even if it comes up in a "fair Use " search. Use your judgement to determine if the image is actually available for fair use.
Always credit the image creator even if it is a fair use image.
When available, provide a link to the image creator's website or the original image source.
Simply type your subject in the search box, check whether you will be using it for commercial purposes, modifying it, or both, and then click the location you want to search. I tend to have the most luck searching Wikimedia Commons, Google Images, and Flickr.
Not all of the photos on Flickr are available for free use. However, many of the photographers allow the use of their images. Under the search options, instead of Any License, choose whichever license fits your needs.
In the image search options, open the Usage Rights dropdown menu, and choose the option that fits your needs. "Labeled for reuse with modification" is the most broad license.
