PDF (Portable Document Format) is an open standard for document exchange. This file format, created by Adobe Systems in 1993, is used for representing documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware and operating system. Each PDF file encapsulates a complete description of a fixed-layout flat document, including the text, fonts, graphics, and other information need to display it. (definition from Wikipedia)
In other words, a PDF will look the same on every computer. PDFs can be multiple pages, and hyperlinks will also remain functional. Most applications will give you the option of saving or exporting as a PDF.
Creating a PDF
1. Set-up files that you will be creating (Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, etc.) all with the same format (such as 8.5'x 11" hroizontal).'
2. Save each individual file as a .pdf.
3. Follow this tutorial to use Adobe Acrobat Pro to merge the files in to a single PDF.
