Whether you’re stepping onto the mats for the first time or continuing your journey, if you’re looking for a place to evolve alongside a great community, you have found your mats!
This year marks 4 years of Digg City being open in Athens and what a journey it has been.
We’ve built an incredible community filled with truly amazing people and that’s something we’re beyond grateful for. But if we’re being honest, turning Jiu Jitsu into a business has been a real challenge for us. Charging high prices just to keep up with Athens rent has never felt right and we never had the heart to turn someone away just because they couldn’t afford to train, which probably not the best way to make a profit.
At the end of the day, Jiu Jitsu is our passion. It’s a place to connect, to grow, and to be part of a community. Somewhere along the way, trying to make it a business started to take away from that and we could feel ourselves losing the spark.
Recently, we were given an opportunity that felt like the right path forward, a chance to rent a great little spot in Nelsonville right by our good friends at Athens Bando. With lower rent, we can get back to what really matters, training, building community, and creating a fun, welcoming space for anyone who wants to be on the mats.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be transitioning to the new location.
In the meantime:
• We will have Open Mat at our Athens location on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8 PM until further notice.
• Tuesday, 3/31 will be the last kids class at the Athens location
We’ll be announcing our official Grand Re-Opening date soon! So stay tuned!
