Low Carb Food Lists

You will often hear a person say they are on a diet. However, if you look up the word diet, you will realize you are always on a diet. It may not always be a good diet, but your diet is how you eat on a daily basis. Healthy and nutritious eating is the way to a healthy body with more muscle than fat. The way to keep a body strong is by maintaining muscle, and to keep fat levels we are told to watch fat consumption and to limit low carb foods. To do this we first need to know which foods are high in fat and contain high cards. A low fat and low carb food list is a good place to start.

A good low carb food list is a list of foods that are not only low in the number of carbohydrates present in the food but also where they fall on the glycemic index. With white refined sugar topping the list at 100, the glycemic index rates from 0 to 100 indicating how quickly sugar from carbohydrates enters the blood stream. A rating of 0 means sugar is absorbed slowly and is optimum for preventing fat storage and other health concerns such as diabetes and hypoglycemia. A rating of 100 means the sugar is going directly into the blood stream almost as soon as you put it into your mouth. The general rule is that any food with a 50 or below rating on the glycemic index is good to eat. These are mostly complex carbohydrates and are considered the good carbs.

Carbohydrates are essential for brain function and for energy. We cannot simply cut out all carbs and live a healthy lifestyle. Choosing the right carbs is the direction we want to go. A low carb food list that includes the glycemic index can help you to decide what to eat or how to substitute foods such as whole grain bread for white bread being that white bread is at the top of the glycemic index almost as high as sugar itself. Choosing sweet potatoes over white potatoes, and anything whole grain over processed is the way to go.
