Smoothies: Are They Healthy?
Strawberries, blueberries, mango, kale, and mint are among the fresh, healthy things you've thrown into your blender.
Smoothies prepared entirely of whole fruits and vegetables, with a splash of soymilk or nonfat dairy added if prefered, are incredibly healthful and nutritious. However, if you're trying to reduce weight, exercise caution.
Would eating two bananas, half an orange, and half a pineapple satisfy your stomach longer than a 16-ounce drink of the same fruit? Definitely... a lot longer.

There's one main issue with smoothies for weight loss — all smoothies. They are fluids
Less Satisfaction
Researchers have consistently discovered that calories in liquid form provide less satiety than calories in solid form. What exactly is satiety? It is the antithesis of hunger. Satiety is the state of being free of hunger. Satiety also refers to how long you feel satisfied after eating.

"Foods that deliver the most satisfaction for the fewest calories can help you lose weight and keep it off," says Kimberly Gomer, MS, RD, LDN, Director of Nutrition and Educator at the Pritikin Longevity Center in Miami. For more than 40 years, Pritikin has been teaching healthy living practises.
Liquids have a low satiety level, which means you don't compensate for the calories you drink by eating less. For example, if you drink a 150-calorie smoothie before or with a meal, you're unlikely to compensate by consuming 150 fewer calories at that meal or at the next meal.
Weight Loss Techniques
Bottom Line: If you want to lose weight, avoid any calorie-containing beverages, including soft drinks, sweetened teas, smoothies, and fruit juices. Liquid calories, regardless of their source, will not satisfy your hunger as well as solid foods.
So, instead of grinding your fruits and vegetables in a blender, eat them whole. A banana being peeled. Cut a bag of baby carrots open. Strawberries should be swirled into a nonfat Greek yoghurt dish. On the kitchen counter, keep a large dish of fresh fruit. Make it a habit to bring fruits and vegetables with you wherever you go.
And keep an eye on that bathroom scale.
