The interdisciplinary seminar in economic history (diesoi) is joint initiative of the Historical Archives of the Bank of Greece, the Department of International and European Economic Studies (DIEES) of the Athens University of Economics and Business and the Department of Political Science and History of Panteion University, which aspires to create a shared meeting place for scholars interested in economic history.

Recent years have witnessed an efflorescence of research in economic history. Modern empirical methods are implemented on data drawing form databases compiled with artificial intelligence and other modern technologies; forgotten archives are digitized and made accessible to researchers over the world; old questions are re-examined in the light of modern challenges. Sometimes, this new research escapes academic lecture halls and turns into multi-translated best-sellers on inequality, capitalism, development. These new studies do not originate from one discipline alone: they come from economists, historians, political scientists, sociologists, geographers, archivists and programmers.

The seminar seeks to present and highlight these studies, promoting an interdisciplinary exchange of views and ideas.

The seminar is open to anyone interested in economic history. Priority is given to young researchers and new methods, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary discussion rather than technical detail. Meetings are held at the Museum of the Bank of Greece, located at 3 Amerikis Street, in Athens. Attendance is free and no registration is required. Events are held in Greek, unless otherwise specified.
