DICOM Converter & Tag Viewer ("the app") is an Android application that converts DICOM medical imaging files (.dcm) into JPEG or PNG images and lets you inspect the DICOM tags inside them. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.
YOUR FILES NEVER LEAVE YOUR DEVICE
All DICOM parsing, image decoding, conversion, and tag extraction happen locally on your phone. The app does not upload, transmit, back up, or copy your DICOM files, the images it produces, or the tag data it reads to any server, ours or anyone else's. There is no account, no cloud storage, and no sign-in.
The app reads a file only when you explicitly choose it through the Android file picker, and only for as long as it takes to display or convert it. Converted images are written only to the location you choose, or shared only to the app you select.
PATIENT INFORMATION IN CONVERTED IMAGES
DICOM files can contain personal and clinical details embedded as metadata, such as patient name, date of birth, and institution. The JPEG and PNG files this app produces contain only the pixel image. That embedded metadata is not written into the exported image.
Note that if you use the tag export feature (.txt or .csv), that file does contain the tag values you saw on screen, which may include personal information. That file is created on your device at your request; it is your responsibility to handle and share it appropriately.
ANONYMOUS USAGE ANALYTICS
The app collects a small amount of anonymous usage data through Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand which features are actually used and to guide future development.
What is sent, discrete events only:
the app was opened
- a DICOM file was opened, plus its modality type (for example "CT" or "MR")
- an export completed or failed, plus the chosen format and an approximate frame count range
- the share function was used
- a tag search, tag dump export, or dictionary lookup occurred
Along with each event, Aptabase records standard technical context: operating system version, device model, app version, country (derived from IP address, which is not stored), and a session identifier that rotates and is not tied to you.
What is never sent:
your DICOM files, images, or any pixel data
- patient names or any DICOM tag values
- file names, folder names, or file paths
- your name, email address, or any account information
- advertising identifiers or persistent device identifiers
- precise location
This data is anonymous and is not linked to your identity. It is transmitted over an encrypted connection and is not sold or shared with third parties for advertising.
PERMISSIONS
Internet: used solely to send the anonymous analytics events described above. File conversion works fully offline.
File access: the app uses the Android Storage Access Framework, so it can only read the specific files or folders you pick. It does not request broad storage access and cannot browse your device on its own.
CHILDREN
The app is a general-purpose file utility and is not directed at children.
DATA RETENTION AND YOUR CHOICES
Because the analytics data is anonymous and contains no identifier tied to you, we cannot locate or delete an individual person's records. There is nothing linking any event to you. Aptabase retains aggregate event data according to its own retention policy. If you prefer not to send any analytics at all, you can deny the app network access in your device settings, or uninstall the app; uninstalling removes all app data from your device.
NOT FOR DIAGNOSTIC USE
This app is a file conversion and metadata inspection utility. It does not interpret images and must not be used to make clinical or diagnostic decisions.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new "last updated" date, and the app's Play Store Data safety declaration will be updated to match.
