Dr. Junming Diao

Junming Diao received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, in 2009 and 2012, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University (BYU), Provo, UT, USA, on April 2017. From May 2017 to 2019, he was a postdoc in electrical engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), CA, USA. From 2019 to 2020, he was a system engineer working on system-on-chip (SOC) in Maxlinear, Inc. From 2020 to 2021, he was an antenna design engineer working on Apple Watch in Apple, Inc. at Cupertino, California. Currently, he is a tenure-track assistant professor at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University.

His interests are in broad areas of electromagnetics, antennas, phased arrays, beamforming, wireless systems, integrated circuits, signal integrity, RF circuits, signal processing, and THz time-domain spectroscopy. He was involved in developing the world's most sensitive phased array feed system (contribution: antenna, system performance model, and signal processing) that increases the overall performance of the 100-meter Green Bank Telescope by about 10 times, the world's first mm-wave phased array feed prototype (contribution: system performance model and RF electronics), and Poynting streamline analysis that provides new insights into the classical antennas leading to unique design and analysis approaches.
