Robotics

Promoting the passion for robotics in all students.

First Lego League

The FIRST Lego League is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students. In ELEM we began in 2017-2018 with a team that developed team work and learned to build and program Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots.

Hour of Code

Each year ASFM participates in a coding related activity during the "Hour of Code" week. For those grade levels that don't regularly have tech class, we visit those classrooms and run a coding activity that introduces young kids to what coding and robotics mean.

Robotics infused units

An example of a robotics infused unit is the Writing Immersion lesson done in Grade 1. For the "How To" unit, all the groups schedule time in the Flexible Learning Space to follow step by step instructions on how to build a robot. Afterwards, they receive a quick demo on how to program the robot.

Girls Coding Club

During lunch time I ran a girls coding club to promote coding amongst girls. It was a successful program that helped develop confidence in girls that needed an extra push to display their talents.
