# Privacy Policy — Apprendre l'Anglais
**App name:** Apprendre l'Anglais (store variant: "Anglais A1-C2 : Dialogues")
**Application ID / package:** `anglais.francais.learn.dialogue`
**Version:** 25.1.0
**Effective date:** 18/06/2026
**Contact:** nawale.elamari@gmail.com
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Apprendre l'Anglais mobile application (the "App") handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. We respect your privacy and have designed the App to keep your learning data on your device by default.
By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
---
## 1. Summary (Plain Language)
- The App does **not** require an account and does **not** ask for your name, email, or phone number.
- Your learning progress (XP, streaks, flashcard schedules, completed lessons, settings) is stored **locally on your device** and is not uploaded to us.
- The App shows ads via **Google AdMob**, which uses your device's **Advertising ID**. In the European Economic Area, the UK, and similar regions, you are shown a **consent prompt (Google UMP)** before personalized ads are used.
- The App may use **Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics** for anonymous, aggregated usage and crash diagnostics — and only when these services are configured in the production build.
- The microphone is used **on your device** for pronunciation/speech-recognition exercises. The App does not record, store, or transmit your voice.
- We do **not** sell your personal information.
- The App is intended for users **aged 13 and over** and is **not directed to children under 13**.
---
## 2. Information We Collect
### 2.1 Information stored only on your device (not collected by us)
The following data is created and stored **locally** using on-device storage (Android Room database and DataStore preferences). It never leaves your device unless your device's own backup settings copy it, and we have no access to it:
- Learning progress: completed dialogues, lessons, readings, quizzes.
- Gamification data: XP, streaks, daily goal, badges, daily challenge results.
- Spaced-repetition (Leitner SRS) schedules and flashcard states.
- App settings: chosen interface language, audio and notification preferences.
You can erase all of this at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App (see Section 7).
### 2.2 Advertising data (via Google AdMob)
To display ads, Google AdMob may access and process:
- Your device's **Advertising ID (AAID)**.
- Approximate, non-precise information such as general device type, OS version, and ad-interaction events.
This processing is performed by Google as a third party. Where required by law, personalized advertising is only enabled **after you grant consent** through the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent prompt. If you decline, the App is designed to continue functioning (the ad system is "fail-open"), and ads, where shown, are limited to non-personalized ads.
### 2.3 Analytics and crash data (via Firebase — production only)
When the App is built for production with Google services configured (i.e., a valid `google-services.json` is present), the App may use:
- **Firebase Analytics** — aggregated, anonymous usage statistics (e.g., which features are opened) to help us improve the App.
- **Firebase Crashlytics** — crash and stability reports (e.g., stack traces, device model, OS version) to help us fix bugs.
These services do not collect your name or contact details. If Google services are not configured in a given build, no analytics or crash data is sent.
### 2.4 Microphone / speech recognition
Some exercises (pronunciation practice, speaking practice, dictation) use the **RECORD_AUDIO** permission and your device's speech-recognition capability to evaluate how you speak. This processing occurs **on your device**. The App does **not** save your recordings and does **not** transmit your voice to our servers. Note that the on-device speech-recognition engine is provided by your device/operating system and is governed by your device manufacturer's and Google's policies.
### 2.5 Translation and conjugation (on-device)
On-device translation uses **Google ML Kit**, which runs **offline on your device**. Text you translate within the App is processed locally and is not sent to us. The verb-conjugation and irregular-verbs engines also run entirely offline.
---
## 3. Android Permissions We Use
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| `RECORD_AUDIO` (microphone) | On-device speech recognition for pronunciation, speaking, and dictation exercises. Not stored or transmitted by the App. |
| `POST_NOTIFICATIONS` | To send optional local reminders (e.g., daily goal / streak reminders). You can disable notifications at any time. |
| `INTERNET` / network access | To load ads (AdMob), and, in production builds, to send anonymous analytics/crash diagnostics. Core learning content works offline. |
You can review and revoke permissions at any time in your device's **Settings → Apps → Apprendre l'Anglais → Permissions**.
---
## 4. How We Use Information
We (and our service providers) use information to:
- Display and, where consented, personalize advertising.
- Keep the App stable and diagnose crashes (production analytics/Crashlytics only).
- Understand aggregate, anonymous feature usage to improve the App.
Your learning progress is used **only on your device** to power the learning experience (progress tracking, spaced repetition, gamification). We do not access it.
---
## 5. Legal Bases (GDPR / EEA & UK Users)
Where the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, our legal bases are:
- **Consent** — for personalized advertising and, where applicable, analytics. Collected via the Google UMP consent prompt. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Section 8).
- **Legitimate interests** — for non-personalized advertising, basic crash diagnostics, and maintaining a secure, functioning App, balanced against your rights.
---
## 6. Data Sharing and Selling
- We do **not sell** your personal information.
- We do **not share** your learning data with anyone — it stays on your device.
- Advertising and diagnostics data is processed by the third-party providers listed in Section 9 strictly to provide their services (ads, analytics, crash reporting).
### California (CCPA/CPRA) Notice
We do not sell or "share" (as defined under the CPRA for cross-context behavioral advertising) personal information beyond the advertising-identifier processing described above, which is subject to your consent choices. California residents have the right to know, delete, and opt out; you can exercise the equivalent controls described in Sections 7 and 8, or contact us at the email above.
---
## 7. Your Rights and Choices
- **Access / portability:** Because progress data lives only on your device, you can view it directly in the App.
- **Erasure:** You can delete all locally stored data by clearing the App's storage (**Settings → Apps → Apprendre l'Anglais → Storage → Clear data**) or by **uninstalling** the App.
- **Permissions:** Revoke microphone or notification access in device settings at any time.
- **GDPR/CCPA requests:** For any request regarding data processed by our advertising or analytics providers, contact us at nawale.elamari@gmail.com
.
---
## 8. Managing Ads and Consent
- **Advertising ID:** You can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in **Android Settings → Privacy → Ads**.
- **Consent (EEA/UK):** Your AdMob/UMP consent choice can be changed from within the App where a "Privacy / Ad settings" or consent option is provided, or by reinstalling the App to re-trigger the consent prompt.
- Declining personalized ads does not block access to the App; non-personalized ads may still be shown.
---
## 9. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- **Google AdMob (advertising)** — https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
- **Google User Messaging Platform (UMP consent)** — https://policies.google.com/privacy
- **Google ML Kit (on-device translation)** — https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms and https://policies.google.com/privacy
- **Google Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (production builds)** — https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy and https://policies.google.com/privacy
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties; please review their policies.
---
## 10. Data Retention
- **On-device data** is retained until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App.
- **Advertising identifiers** are retained by Google according to Google's policies; you can reset them at any time.
- **Analytics and crash data** (production only) is retained by Google/Firebase per Google's retention settings and policies.
We do not maintain our own servers storing your personal data.
---
## 11. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users **aged 13 and over**. It is **not directed to children under 13**, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the minimum age of consent in your jurisdiction). The App is not enrolled in Google Play's children/family programs. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App in a way that provided personal information, please contact us at nawale.elamari@gmail.com
so we can address it.
---
## 12. Data Security
Learning data is stored locally on your device and is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, OS sandboxing). Advertising and diagnostics data transmitted to third-party providers is sent over encrypted connections managed by those providers. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we design the App to minimize the data it handles.
---
## 13. International Users
The on-device data described in this policy stays on your device. Advertising and diagnostics data processed by Google may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, subject to Google's safeguards and policies.
---
## 14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the **Effective date** above and, where appropriate, within the App or store listing. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
---
