Casually inviting Jesus
Hello Everyone,
Last week I was at Oakland University and Meadow Brook Hall for a writing camp. After going there, I can say without a doubt, I am not going to Oakland. Don't get me wrong, Oakland is amazing, everyone there is so nice, and there are so many clubs and activities, there is even a splash pad (I spent most of the week soaking wet and it was totally worth it). My only problem with Oakland was that, as a Christian, I felt very alone. There where many girls in my group that were also Christians and I think we where a little timid to admit it at the very beginning. I for one felt all alone, but, by the end, more and more people finally opened up and shared their faith.
However, there where some other girls in my class that where very far from the Lord and I could just sense it. They were hurting and they weren't getting along with their families. I saw how hard it was for them and I just wanted to say, I have the answer, Jesus.
Our society is shifting father and father away from the Lord. As Christians, it's hard to have the answer and not know how to share it and it is even harder watching friends and loved ones fall for the trap of the world. Being amongst kids my age for a whole week was very eye opening. Most of them where swayed by the world. Being around them was hard. It was very easy, you might say easier, to dishonor God and my convictions, rather than live them out.
Going back to having the answer, a few weeks ago I sent a letter to one of my great aunts along with a copy of my book. My grandma read the letter and mailed it for me. In the letter I said "I've never talked to you about Jesus before..." My grandma later told me that it was such a simple yet effective way to bring him up.
At writing camp we had to share a poem or story at the end of the week. We where all trying to decide what to read and I casually told one of the girls that I was having trouble deciding what to write, because most of my writing is centered around God. It was such a casual way of letting God into the conversation and it worked. She had a similar problem with her poetry and on the final day, when we read our pieces, both poems referred to Jesus and his love, but we made sure it wasn't too obvious.
Anyways, I hope all of you are inspired to go out and casually invite Jesus into one of your conversations.
Talk to you Tomorrow,
Abigail Sandison
P.S. Meadow Brook was really amazing. It's just so crazy that God was able to create this big world and at the same time, it makes sense. Everything points back to a creator. Here are some pictures I took.
