As you can see, some text overlaps the other. I have not changed any settings, its the default. At first I thought Wine was responsible for screwing up the fonts, but on a different machine with a different version, the same problem occurs, so I am blaming Chromium for the problem. I tried setting the fonts to Noto Sans Devanagari, Noto Serif Devanagari or Baloo (from Google Fonts). It still doesn't show the fonts correctly. It shows the fonts correctly on KOReader and AIReader X.

The main problem is this version of Pages does not have devnagari fonts and what ever I try to copy + paste from other sources i.e. text typed in google font, text from word documents etc, does not get displayed in Pages.

I am using Libreoffice 6.4 (Win 10 OS) The document in libreoffice calc written in Unicode Devnagari fonts displayed correctly on the display screen but when I gave print the font rendering was not works properly it was showed as circle circle between all characters. Some websites in Firefox on Arch Linux do not render the devanagari fonts correctly. Particularly, the glyph known as "Shri" in Sanskrit language is not rendered correctly on Arch. On the first line of this wikipedia page the glyph Shri is rendered incorrectly as this.. However, the same glyph "Shri", on Windows as well as Linux Mint, in the same wiki page is rendered correctly as this. (in Firefox too).

Okay so removing free fonts fixed the issue for everything except my terminal. I'm using st and have used the font2 patched and loaded the desired font in there but the glyph doesn't render properly in my terminal window.

I run the code with XeLaTeX but it says it can't find the "Nakula" font (or the "XITS" font, for that matter). So, my question is, where do I look to see which fonts are currently installed, and how do I find the "Nakula" font? I searched for it on CTAN with no results.

The OpenType lookups in an Indic font must be written to match glyph sequences after re-ordering has occurred. OpenType fonts should not have substitutions that attempt to perform the re-ordering. If a font developer attempted to encode such reordering information in an OpenType font, they would need to add a huge number of many-to-many glyph mappings to cover the general algorithms that a shaping engine will use.

The order of the lookups within each feature is also very important. For more information on lookups and defining features in OpenType fonts, see the Encoding section of the OpenType Font Development document.

The 'vatu' feature can be used to substitute a ligature of a full (or half) form consonant plus a below-base vattu (rakaar) mark. This feature was needed in earlier implementations to combine rakaar with both full and half forms It is not useful, however, for newer implementations that distinguish consonants that do not have half forms from other consonants, for purposes of re-ordering the reph and pre-pended matras. In Devanagari, this feature is not required if the 'rkrf' feature is used, however it is still supported for backward compatibility with existing fonts.

NOTE: It is strongly recommended to include the "dflt" language tag in all OpenType fonts because it defines the basic script handling for a font. The "dflt" language system is used as the default if no other language specific features are defined, or if the application does not support that particular language.
