DetectWP is a browser extension designed to help users quickly identify the WordPress themes and plugins powering any website. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a transparent user experience.
We do NOT collect, store, or transmit any user data.
Specifically, this extension:
❌ Does NOT collect personal information (names, emails, etc.).
❌ Does NOT track your browsing behavior or search history.
❌ Does NOT send your data to external servers (except for public API requests to fetch technical plugin info).
❌ Does NOT use cookies or third-party analytics tools.
The extension operates primarily on your local device through the following methods:
Source Code Analysis: Analyzes meta tags, script paths, CSS classes, and global JavaScript variables on the current page to detect WordPress.
Metadata Retrieval: Reads theme metadata directly from the style.css file to display the theme name, version, and author.
WordPress.org API Integration: When a plugin is detected, the extension sends a direct request to the public WordPress.org API to fetch real-time data (description, ratings, and active installs). No personally identifiable information (PII) is included in these requests.
To function correctly, DetectWP requires the following permissions:
activeTab: To access the content of the current tab only when you explicitly activate the extension.
scripting: To analyze the HTML structure and identify WordPress-specific components.
Host Permissions: To read theme and plugin-related elements on supported websites to perform accurate detection.
All detection processes are performed in real-time. No data is stored by this extension after you close the tab or deactivate the tool. Personal preferences (such as Grid/List view or Language settings) are stored locally in your browser's storage.
This extension interacts solely with the WordPress.org API to provide technical information about plugins. We do not integrate with any third-party advertising, marketing, or tracking services.
