Trail Leader Appreciation Dinner

Saturday January 21st saw the Inaugural AZLRO Trail Leader Appreciation Dinner.

An evening hosted by Council Member and Chef extraordinaire Dave Smith, his wife Loraine and daughter Sarah at their beautiful residence in Scottsdale, AZ.

All AZLRO Trail Leaders gathered for a night of recognition and appreciation for their unrivaled efforts, professionalism, and dedication to the success of our club.

Every single current AZLRO trail leader has undergone Trail Leader training by none other than the man, the myth, the legend, Camel Trophy competitor, and I4WDTA Certified Trainer - Bill Burke

In addition to being trained by the best in the business, every Trail Leader is Wilderness First Aid Certified.

Most of our Trail Leaders are HAM Licensed, something that, while not required is highly encouraged in our group.

The time and effort put forth by these individuals is largely responsible for the success of past events. They take time out of their daily lives to continue to provide nothing but the best off-road experiences for our members.

They pre-run trails in order to ensure a fun but most importantly safe day for trail run attendees.

They also spend the time and money to maintain and prepare their vehicles for Trail Leader Duties. Something that further demonstrates their dedication to our members.

They are essential to the success of the club.

It is for these reasons and many more that we would like to say:

Thank you all.

Quarterly Saturday Meeting

On Saturday February 4th AZLRO held their Quarterly Saturday meeting at El Dorado Park in Scottsdale. This meeting included a very informative vehicle rigging safety presentation by club member Robert Ward.

Robert brings many years of experience in rigging and heavy equipment mechanical expertise. Currently working for the city of Phoenix maintaining infrastructure backup systems, he is one of the unsung heroes that keep this amazing city moving.

The meeting had a very relaxed feel to it, with donuts and coffee provided by the club and a kids playground close to the location to keep the future club members busy.

We look forward to an even bigger turnout for our next Saturday meeting, check our events page for updates.

We hope to see you there!

AZLRO Members BBQ 2017

This year's club BBQ was held March 3rd - 5th at our usual Lake Roosevelt location.

Another successful event hosted by the Arizona Land Rover Owners Club, bringing together members and roverphiles alike from across the country.

2017 brought in the very first AZLRO Camp Cook-Off on Friday evening. An event conceived by council member Dave Smith and made possible by the wonderful members who participated and fed the entire group with their tasty meals.

The results of the Camp Cook off were:

  • 1st Place - Andrew Garcia - Carne Asada Street Tacos
  • 2nd Place - Robert Ward - Jalfrezi Curry with rice and Samosas
  • 3rd Place - Andrew Pollock - Daube de boeuf à la provençale

Many thanks to all participants for their amazingly tasty creations, and for taking the time to make this event another success.

As usual, there was a diverse mix of roverphiles from many different walks of life, a staple feature of most Land Rover based events, the attraction knows no boundaries and forges rather unlikely friendships.

On Saturday, some relaxed around camp, some enjoyed time by the lake, others explored the trails in the area, and then there were the AZLRO Bandidos. A Rag-Tag group of misfits that came together at the last minute to enjoy an afternoon of target practice in the desert.

As the sun began to set and kids ran around camp taking turns on the zip line, members gathered around the ramada to grill and eat dinner as a club should, together.

This eventually gave way to the evening events consisting of a brief club meeting and a very well deserved Lifetime Membership awarded to longtime club family James Howard, Kelly Howard and Grace Howard on behalf of the club.

This was followed by the Trail Leader of the Year award voted on by the club members, 2016's award recipient was Trail Leader Carlos Franco.

And last but most certainly not least was the great raffle made possible by the generous sponsors that help make every single AZLRO event a success!

Many Thanks to the following Sponsors

Membership surely has its perks!
