BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • The department was established in the year 1963-64.

  • Establishment of courses

UG – B.Sc. Physics was started in the year 1968-69.

PG – M.Sc. Physics was started in the year 2012-13.

  • Both UG and PG are affiliated to the University of Madras.

  • Autonomy was granted in the year 1998-99.

Vision: To emerge as a department of eminence and excellence.

Mission: To impart quality education in both theoretical and practical Physics through contemporary curriculum and dedicated teaching with the help of innovative instructional methods, and to promote the highest ethics in social and scientific responsibilities.

Best practices followed by the department

I. Orientation programme for first year students:

  • An orientation programme is held for the first year students of both UG and PG programmes.

  • This paves way for the students to get familiarised with the institution, the department, its practices, the rules and regulations to be followed in connection with both the academics and other relevant areas.


II. Remedial coaching for slow learners:

  • Based on the performance in the Internal Assessment test and the interactions had during the class room sessions, slow learners are identified.

  • Special attention is paid to the slow learners through remedial coaching classes held after the regular college hours.

  • The Remedial coaching helps the slow learners to learn the concepts and perform better in the subsequent Internal assessments.
