Feedback 5 Photos #6

2022, April 15

I submitted 5 photos at my local photo club NAFVA. Looking forward again to the feedback from these experienced photographers.

One thing has changed in this process compared to the previous times ... since last month I volunteered to help with the Tech Team. This also means creating the presentation of the submitted photographs of the members. So, this means you already have a sneak preview of all photographs. And as spoiler alert I can already see the candidates of the photo of the month.

Honestly, although I’m interested more in feedback, it’s also a pleasant side effect if your photos are nominated for the photo of the month.

This time there were only 5 photos from 7 members. And from those 7 members, 5 were selected for one of their photographs as photo of the month.

I was not one of those. Therefore I am even more curious to hear the feedback of the judge.

I submitted these 5 photos:

Photo 1

Two worlds 1 photo

Nothing wrong here, some people thought the left side could be a bit darker. But from whom I like to hear his feedback just mentioned “nothing wrong here”. It’s a good photo, thumb up.

Photo 2

There is beauty everywhere

I explained that I’m working on a serie called “The lonely plant”. Somebody wondered if is would come out better in color. Where the judge mentioned it was not necessary. The grey area could be a bit too bright.

And I should straighten this more vertical. And crop it a bit more.

I’ve tried to apply the feedback but don’t like the suggestions in color and cropping. Vertical alignment and reducing the grey is a good advise.

Photo 3

Mother rabbit with youngsters

Just for fun.

To be honest I can’t remember the feedback. It was well spotted.

Photo 4

Train

The judge mentioned a typical image we see from Dennis ... dark.

Ofcourse on the beamer/screen you can’t see it totally clear. But you can see the (dutch) NS sign of the train very clear.

Photo 5

Aligned

The judge mentioned it was well seen. She thought it were headlights of two cars. (but it was just some lanterns light on an empty camping place).

From whom I like to hear his feedback mentioned I need to be careful with the dark areas, in general I have them always a bit too dark. It makes it interesting to see a bit more as well. For this photo it is probably the beamer/screen. In the “real” photo you do see a bit more.

Last month I was asked (funny enough by the judge of this evening) if I would be interested to do a course to become a judge during these evenings. I’ve thought about it, but I’d rather not. Well at least not at this stage of my photography journey. I am still searching for my own identity and honestly there are just too many photography topics I don’t like at all. You will learn to judge this independently but I know myself, so if that really works, I’m not sure. It will not be fair to others and if I don’t have pleasure doing this, I shouldn’t do it.

Especially on this evening it was clear for me why I don’t want to do this. It’s too easy to criticize the jury. It is voluntary and we are glad that other members of the club want to do it. It is not an elected jury member of the photo association.

I’m always happy about feedback and happy to filter out from who’s advise and suggestions worth more.

It’s a good advise that from the last couple of times I realise I just need to bring back a little bit more in my dark areas of the photographs.
