Denise M. Toro is a passionate parent, educator, and school counselor on a lifelong journey of helping children and families grow, connect, and thrive. With more than 25 years of experience in education, Denise has dedicated her career to supporting the whole child by strengthening the connections between brain development, emotional well-being, and learning.
Currently serving as a District Support Counselor in Humble ISD and the recipient of the 2025 Multi-Level Counselor of the Year Award from the Texas School Counselor Association, Denise is known for her dynamic and engaging approach to helping adults better understand what lies beneath children’s behavior. Her work focuses on shifting the lens from reacting to behavior to understanding the brain, nervous system, and foundational needs that drive how children learn, connect, and grow.
For over two decades, Denise has guided thousands of students and families in public schools, building meaningful relationships while creating authentic and creative learning experiences that foster resilience, confidence, and emotional growth.
Denise is a strong advocate for the power of movement and rhythm in brain development. She has trained in Blomberg Rhythmic Movement and is currently working toward certification as a consultant in the practice. Her work emphasizes how movement supports regulation, readiness to learn, and the development of the whole child.
She is also the creator of The Rapping School Counselor, a YouTube channel where rhythm, music, and movement come together to inspire students, parents, and educators to build emotional strength and resilience—one beat at a time.
Denise’s mission is simple but powerful: to help children, families, and schools develop practical tools that increase awareness, strengthen relationships, and support healthy regulation. Through connection, creativity, movement, and rhythm, she continues to make an impact that reaches far beyond the classroom.
