Hello folks! Thank you for visiting my website.
My name is Denise and I am a first-generation PhD candidate and ICTAS Fellow working with Dr. W. Steven Holbrook at the Virginia Tech Geosciences Department. Our research focuses on studying the critical zone through the use of near surface seismic imaging, geochemistry and 3D imaging. Before joining the team at Virginia Tech, I received my Bachelors of Science in Geology and Minor in Physics at Sonoma State University where I was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. I am originally from San Luis Obispo, California.
My passions lie at the intersection between scientific disciplines and how we can connect multiple subjects, scales and tools to better answer scientific questions. My goal with my work is to discover new and streamlined ways to study the critical zone through collaboration and various fields of study. I hope to also take what I have learned and use it to further scientific outreach to those not in the community.
When I am not in the field or the office you can often find me knitting and sitting in the sun. Though I am no longer living on the coast, I spend most of my summers at home on the beach, or doing fieldwork with my team.
