EPD or electromagnetic pipe detection system is used to locate tracer pipes.
Generally, an EPD utilises a transmitter to generate a signal, which is then received by a receiver.
For signal transmission, a conducting material is needed. And hence HDPE water supply pipes come equipped with a tracer wire as well.
These wires can easily withstand the destructive and corrosive effects of underground usage. These wires are used to detect different buried utilities.
